The Bible teaches you are not saved by what you do, be it showing up in church or helping the poor, but rather things like helping the poor should be evidence of the "Christ in you". But you are right, there are many 'Sunday Christians", or "cultural Christians" in US.

They are not allowed to openly promote political parties by name, so they sneak it in by constantly bringing up political wedge issues like homosexuality and abortion aka the Biblical "abominations", but rarely talk about politically neutral sins like anger, selfishness, adultery, lying, cheating in taxes (lying / stealing), whipping up strife among people etc.

What makes America repugnant is its turn away from competency, the sorry state of its academic institutions, its refusal to enforce its borders, its refusal to balance budgets, its corrupt use of state power to pursue its political opponents, its use of taxpayer resources to pay off political parasites and its endless wars that serve no interest. It is not an accident that Americans have reached all time lows in trust of their government. It is not an accident that America faces the largest military recruitment crisis in its existence. A government is not a company. A company is limited in what it can do to the revenue it generates. It has to sell product of some sort to generate revenue. Governments in the days of fiat currency can always print more money and the products they sell are borderline extortion. And they make nothing.
