BUT. It is a politically correct hazardous material fire. So there is that.

After days, no reply...? Evidently "Einstein" has left the building....

Well... back on topic... maybe we should focus on something less theoretical and more 'nuts-and-bolts', like Ohm's Law (since we're talking about electric cars). Thus:

[IMG]. Danke Schön, Herr Doktor Georg Ohm!

And speaking of electric vehicles in Deutschland, I had a LONG Skype conversation with a buddy of mine in Germany who is quite conversant about the whole 'electric car' paradigm there. While he acknowledges the growing faddish popularity of the concept of these vehicles, widespread adoption of them would require a massive overhaul of the entire electrical 'grid' and distribution capacities in Germany. And, even the more expensive EV's sold today require at least twenty minutes to take on enough charge to go a mere 200 kilometers (~125 miles, flat surface, optimal road and weather conditions).

I asked him about 'hybrids' and he just laughed, suggesting that maybe the overall best use of electricity for personal vehicles today is in electrically-powered bicycles, which are quite powerful and growing quite popular throughout Europe. They're also pretty damn expensive, too! Interesting: https://cyclingindustry.news/electr...all-eu-cycle-sales-growth-rate-accellerating/

Technology advances and it will advance to the point EV's will be the only choice available. It is inevitable. You and I may not be around at that point but it WILL happen. Computers of the 60's were huge monstrosities and now our phones have much more computing power than those things ever hoped to have.

EV's are a technological step backward. They will never become predominant.

People keep overlooking the flaws of the EV.

My prediction for the EV was using water to be used for fuel using hydrogen.

I believe you are referring to the EV's of today. I just can't see 50 years from now that we would still be using gas powered vehicles. I wonder what happened to the hydrogen/water fueled vehicles they had been working on?

Just a thought....the extra weight is a plus if you live in a colder climate.
My wife loves it for that reason too. The weight really helps with icy/slippery road conditions.

There is no reason ICE vehicles cannot continue indefinitely. Hydrogen fuel cell remains attractive but solutions are elusive.

Amazing how Republican talking points are now seen as determinants of technology

I'm not aware of any talking points. But the technological pro's and con's are well known.

Things can change. The fact that an electric car needs no transmission seems a major point in its favor right there. If one should be developed with either a quick charge and/or range increase of an order of magnitude I predict they would supplant the ICE almost entirely

To carry weight costs electric energy. My grandson owns one and my daughter drives it too and she likes it.

Amazing isn't it that despite all the discussion on the EV, so few Americans drive any of them.

I was hoping Hydrogen would be the common fuel when I believed in the EV more than today.

How is that? Electricity has always been cutting edge in technology every since I was small child.. Yes, there were electric cars in the early 1900s .there were ICE cars too. The first car ever to go 100mph was powerered by steam.

Sounds as if you own and drive an EV. True?

    True...I do see your point.
I've been looking into vehicle "curb weight" lately,
because I was considering buying a portable vehicle lift.
We have a Jeep Wrangler LJ, a Honda Civic and the Tesla model 3.
So I wanted to make sure the lift could be used on all three vehicles.
Surprisingly...the "curb weight" of all three vehicles is less than 5000 pounds,
so the lift would work for all of them.
I see folks driving around these big SUV's and pickups just to get groceries all the time. Those weigh quite a bit more than a Tesla 3.

Range, power, charging time and safety are all EV shortfalls. Both heat and cold degrade performance.

Definitely. As to globally I think most are diesel powered.

We have one political party that does not ever want to discuss the disadvantages of a low used power source that so few actually use.

At the moment a mere 5 of the 55 posters allege they now own an EV.

That is true but the weight of the source of power for them is only about 120 pounds full of gasoline.
A lift sure is handy for many things for auto owners.

Why not check the videos of Jay Leno who has one or more. Also if you look, you might learn more of the pros and cons on youtube.
