    Most conservatives I know believe that politics and government SHOULD be free of empathy and compassion.

    I think that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but I don't want us to get too off topic here.

    An observation:

    Those most wedded to the theory of natural selection are also those most likely to be averse to it’s observable existence in the present. They are also the most enamored with eliminating selective pressures moving into the future.

    It’s as if logical conclusions pertaining to the ramifications of the theory induce visceral negative emotions—emotions that metamorphose into political beliefs/decisions in many.
