So you think we have the choice of allowing children to be gun down in ever increasing numbers or a civil war?

As a gun owner myself I am not against all guns ownership but the craziness of allowing a person who not yet old enough to buy beer to arm himself legally with many rifles design as battlefield weapons and then go on to killed 17 persons in a school is insane.

If the guns are more important then our children lives to the point that no sane firearm limits will be allow without a civil war I for one am all for having a civil war if that what it take.

The AR15 is not designed to be a battlefield weapon, as illustrated by the fact no military uses them on the battlefield.

Yes you need to be vetted. Just like you are when you want to cross the border back into the US

Rush you mean the same person who was telling us at the same time that all drug addicts should be locked up and the keys thrown away until he himself was found to be a drug user?

You just got to love right wing republicans.

Sorry but the only difference between it and the current military version of the same rifle is that the military version allow a setting that produce a three shots burst for every trigger pull not a very big difference.

And yet, it is all the difference in the world, for had it been designed for the battlefield - as you falsely claim - it would not be semi-auto only.

That difference is all the difference. One is restricted under NFA 1934 and the Hughes Amendment; the other is not.

Actually, BillM, it may be a big "weapons of war" difference to SCOTUS.

A claim that has no basis in fact - and thus, to present such an argument to the SCotUS is to present a lie.

The AR-15 is not, and never has been a military rifle, nor a battlefield weapon. It was marketed exclusively on the private civilian market, and is a wholly civilian design of firearm. No amount of arguing to the contrary will ever change such a fact.

The use of hyperbole by yourself undermines the credibility of the argument being presented by yourself.

The navy yard killer was vetted by the federal government and given security clearing. How did such work out?

It is indeed a very big difference. The internals of the M16 and the AR-15 are not compatible, and not interchangeable with one another.

Irrelevant and off topic to the subject being discussed. The argument made by yourself was individuals being vetted in order to purchase firearms. It was demonstrated that high-level security clearance vetting has failed miserably, as evidenced by the navy yard killer, and even Edward Snowden.

Trusting a system that is known for blatant failures, on the basis of simply doing something, is not only unwise, it is an approach devoid of even basic logic.

Sorry but once more a three burst capability is hardly ever use in combat so in fact the two rifles as they come out of the factories are for all practical purposes are one and the same weapon.

An if you just have to have the older version fully auto M16 type of performance from a AR you can buy a but stock as the shooter in Las Vegas did.

Once more they are one and the same rifle.

    Sorry, but you're wrong.
Not a single military issue the AR15 because it is not a weapon of war.

Lord how dishonor can a person be the AR is a M16 without the fully auto mode that in fact no longer even exist in the current M162 version being replaced by a three burst mode that also is hardly ever use in combat.

Wrong a large percent of the total guns parts are indeed interchangeable.

Except for the fact that they are not even close to being the same firearm. The simple fact that a method of operation is not utilized does not change anything.

Factually incorrect, and devoid of coherent thought.

The parts responsible for the fully-automatic capabilities are the parts that are subject to regulations and restrictions under the NFA. As far as established federal law is concerned, and federal law supersedes the unfounded opinion of yourself, the AR-15 is not the same thing as the M16, and never can be the same thing.

Pray tell, how exactly does the citation being presented by yourself actually support the argument being presented by yourself, that the AR-15 and M16 are supposedly the exact same firearm, when they are not?

Was the citation even read before it was presented for consideration? Obviously it was not, otherwise it would have never been presented to begin with. The article notes that it is necessary to completely replace all of the internal components of an AR-15, with the components of the M16, to convert it into a firearm with full-auto capabilities.
