Meanwhile the argument that food stamps to the hungry and heating subsidies to the cold are a central proponent of republican efforts to cut spending across the country.

Um...because amazon would have gone elsewhere if they didn’t get tax breaks.

Well, this is kind of embarrassing, but I guess someone has to explain it...

When sociopaths love wealth and power very, very much, they sleep with the political class.

And sometimes a hideous thing like Jeff Bezos emerges, and its parents love it very, very much.

If you have any more questions, you can ask your mother...

meanwhile, many if not all utilities are subsidizing amazon's electric use by overcharging their residential customers to pay for amazon's electricity usage... figure that one out...

Where would they go if this blatant tax redistribution scheme to the very wealthy was eliminated nationwide? Why should the tax payer subsidize these multi billionaires?

The largest most blatant example of "taxmail" to date. Kinda dwarfs building a billion dollar stadium for some rich sports team owner, don' it?

I agree, cities and counties often give tax breaks so companies move there. But after a few years liberals start screaming the company isn't paying taxes and blame conservatives.

It's not socialism if it benefits the rich & powerful.

Interesting history note, the richest person in human history is believed to be Mansa Musa. He had so much wealth that historians say it was indescribable with a significantly higher wealth than that of Augustus Caesar who is valued around $4.6 trillion. He was so wealthy that tales of his famous pilgrimage to Mecca—during which Musa’s spending was so lavish that it caused a currency crisis in Egypt—mention dozens of camels each carrying hundreds of pounds of gold.

With new York's 8.8% income tax and 50k 6 figure jobs along with ancillary economic production, the payback is greater than the expense.

Class warfare aside, I don't like the special tax incentives offers either, but my reasons are more to promote an overall political climate that is conducive to economic growth. States like Texas or Tennessee have figured this out. New York had to cone off the hip to level the playing field, but it offers Amazon competitive advantage against other New York companies.

Not really. Tax funded stadiums have befuddled me for years. Where's my tickets if I'm paying for it.

This is untrue when you use inflation adjusted dollars.

NY is basically giving Amazon the money to build their HQ, just like St. Louis helped the Rams build their stadium. Then the Rams decided to leave after not being able to strongarm St. Louis to build another stadium for them.

    http://www.sportsonearth.com/article/244324560/empy-dome-at-americas-center-st-louis-rams

Now, St; Louis is out tax payer's money and they have an empty stadium to take care of. Double whammy.

I predict the same fate for the Amazon HQ, when they want a new deal in a few years, they'll abandon NY and go to the next highest bidder.

    Extractive capitalism at its best.

The wealthy invest in politicians who need money to stay in office and deals like this are the return on that investment. All the vendors and contractors stand to make hundreds of millions (if not billions) in construction alone and you can be sure that the ones awarded these contracts will have all paid their dues.

Because democrats are the pure definition of a fascist with their tax breaks for specific companies who tow the party line. Bezos is a huge #fightfor15 advocate, something he wont have to deal with when he is making his low skilled jobs automated. He is driving out competition and his friends in the DNC give him tax breaks for bringing a part of the company to their area.

ALL socialism countries have benefited the rich in power. This is actually fascist, to give you friends in business tax breaks and special privileges that you wont give to others.

Because they can't lower taxes for everyone, so they have to give subsidies to attract business to their shitty state.
