As Many as 48 Million Twitter Accounts
    Aren’t People, Says Study

    _____________________

    by Michael Newberg, CNBC -

    Mar 10 2017

"Researchers at USC used more than one thousand features to identify bot accounts on Twitter, in categories including friends, tweet content and sentiment, and time between tweets. Using that framework, researchers wrote that "our estimates suggest that between 9 percent and 15 percent of active Twitter accounts are bots."

Since Twitter currently has 319 million monthly active users, that translates to nearly 48 million bot accounts, using USC's high-end estimate."

Did it seem a little far-fetched to believe Katy Perry had 50 million followers,
when she is basically a walking advertisement for corporate America ?

"Look at my pumps, " Katy said as she ascended a high center stage stair case
with a giant spotlight solely focused on her shoes. She repeated the line 3 times in a MTV LIVE festival video.

Katy Perrys latest music video is entirely shot at Disneyland, of her going on rides to an annoying chorus of noise that neither resembles music, or a jingle.

Then of course - the constant wardrobe and Cover Girl ads of Katys always changing face, hair, and nail dye jobs.

Something tells me 45 of her 50 million 'followers' are corporate bot 'like' sponsors pushing trendy clothes, and the emo fad.

No surprise. For many years, PR and marketing firms and political organizations have paid people to post certain positions on the web, they create fake web sites, fake facebook pages, fake reviews and comments, all to promote a product or political agenda or to shape the discussion.

Its no surprise at all that this process has been automated.

I'll bet that there are a lot more than 9-15% of twitter accounts that are fake, the same for facebook and the rest. I suspect this forum has its share of paid trolls.

I also noticed that on my fave Libertarian political radio talk show on WSB Atlanta,
tweets have replaced a substantial number of live caller questions to the shows host.

I'm sure you noticed the same thing on CNN 'town halls' and NBC fake 'debates'.
    That's democracy for ya !

Only in America would a singer like Katy Perry have to dress up like a box of M&Ms
to sing her song on network TV. :omg:

What's really sick, is these fake tweets are used as softball questions in
Presidential Election debates. To think that news, whether on CSPAN, talk radio, or the net can be manipulated and falsified with newspeak from fabricated Facebook and Twitter personas, deciding the fate of U.S. soldiers serving in foreign wars, because a candidate never got to hear the peoples voice, or because the politicians are trapped in a Washington DC and media conglomerate FISHBOWL while people are massacred pointlessly in wars based on Hillary or Bidens lies.

Clickbait revenue incentivizes fake social media accounts. That said, I am guessing the 48 M # is probably high. A lot of them are likely multiple account holders who have walked away from their old accounts and then followed the same celebrities on their new accounts.

Its all a scam put on by the establishment, but after WikiLeaks and the other exposures of the DNC and media, everyone knows its a scam. All of the claims that the media and establishment and their useful idiots called "tin foil hat" conspiracy theories have been shown to be true.

As many as 48 million accounts on Twitter are actually bots, study finds

In February, Twitter announced it had 319 million monthly active users worldwide, or just slightly under the number of every person in the United States.

But of those 319 million, as many as 48 million aren’t actually real, according to a study conducted by researchers from the University of Southern California: They’re just software programs, designed to do everything a normal person on Twitter would do, including following other accounts and liking and retweeting certain messages.

    http://www.miamiherald.com/news/nation-world/national/article138002733.html

    ...................................

I was at a rock band message forum recently - and the 'who's online'
section had BING BOTS and we had noticed several new threads
    posted
but they were obvious ads spamming the board.

But if fake Twitter accounts can and are "designed to do everything a normal person on Twitter would do, including following other accounts and liking and retweeting certain messages," then how we know if certain threads / posts here aren't posted by Twitter Bots or Bing Bots ?

The Bing and Google bots are indexing threads, following the links you post here which is why the Russian Trolls post all their RT and Sputnik crap on here to improve their organic search results.

The Twitter bots are different, mostly just to make people like Trump look popular

    Well -

Like the article says, Twitter Bots or Bing Bots do everything a normal person on Twitter would do, and you can see and witness them for yourself in real time.

The bots post one liners or re-tweet threads from elsewhere.

I'd like to know that the person I'm talking to replying to a thread at PF
is an actual person. Not a bot.

There are so many bots posted on message board lists, they post one liner threads, or maybe three lines in the OP ...

How do we know that dozens of threads at PF are not simply started by (and continued for 9 pages) by Google, Bing, and Twitter bots ?

You know - how do we know that Corporatists bots DON'T DICTATE THE POLITICAL TOPICS AND CONTENT AT PF ?

(i.e.) low brow, re-hashed, or re-tread nonsense as seen on TV ?

Most of this is fake accounts set up to follow and enhance the careers of celebrities/entertainment vehicles... for a price, part of a package of social media marketing that includes fake reviews, youtube views and comments, clickbait and other social media "buzz." The key thing to remember is that almost none of it is towards political ends. Even the stupidest voters aren't very likely to change their votes based on tweets, clickbait, fake social media polls, etc. Moreover, anyone dumb enough to be fooled by that stuff aren't likely reliable voters.

It is being pushed in the news now to forward the bogus "Russian bot" gov-edu-union-contractor-grantee-trial lawyer-MSM Complex narrative response to the memo/spying scandal, hence there will be many such articles and accompanying "studies" coming out of the Complex pipe. Take them with a huge grain of salt when they start claiming impact on politics.

Another variant is the "clickbait" hoax, where they try to claim that the very real clickbait industry is politically nefarious. Anyone who spends lots of time on the net and is regularly exposed to clickbait should be able to see right through this, but it makes for another convenient red herring for rotten Complex drones and crooks.

What's factual about political spam is that the LW/Democrats do in fact have several paid troll brigades via mediamatters, shareblue, public union PR departments and other Soros type entities. The Russian bots narrative is a diversion from this real, documented paid political trolling. Want to see it in action? Just spend some time on the "politics" boards of reddit.

Just remember the LW is pure projection, whatever they are accusing their opposition of is what they themselves are doing.

OK bots controlling topics and or posting on PF is a bit far fetched. The thread creation guidelines for 1. Then theres the quite busy moderators who would and do delete repetitive trolling using the same exact verbiage.

Now as to sponsored posters whether corporate or politically motivated? Oh sure we have several I'm sure

    Thanks for replying!

I know we have many, many, members at PH.

But it seemed like we had an unusually large number of repeat topics to prior vears.

Also, other places have even worse bots yet dissimilar shallow content

(i.e.) one line OP and 12 pages of single line post answers, awfully odd.

Elsewhere - the bots seem to have a real 'anti-intellectual' agenda -

    as seen on TV.

Like the many imbeciles who watch James Corden / Stephen Colbert.

I don't care about celebrities doing this but I do care when twitter is weaponized with this tactic to influence political opinions just as fake polls have been by the media.

Well it's really Corporate America using celeb Twitter comments as hype and sensationalism to attract viewers in a last gasp effort to get attention. That's nothing new - the media thinks Twitter comments posing as 'news' makes the
MSM appear hip to young people. Not ! (Just dumbed down)

But Twitter, Bing, and Google bots posing as people on message forums and chat rooms like the Miami Herald article above states, that is another issue altogether !

The MSM is already dumb enough with Katy Perry videos trying to sell women high end handbags, shoes, Kim K. marketing vacations, jewels, and blue jeans and Rachel Maddow being a low-brow tabloid drama queen.

But if robo-chat sponsored by the DNC is the new norm at message boards -

    we're in big trouble !

Metallica Fans Furious After Bots Allegedly Snatch Up Thousands Of Tickets

    "
Metallica fans have taken to Twitter to express their outrage after the pre-sale for the band’s upcoming “S&M2” show with the San Francisco Symphony ended within seconds due to bots grabbing all the available tickets.

Members of Metallica’s fan club were supposed to be given the opportunity to buy tickets a few days early, but it was reported that tickets began showing up instantly at StubHub before fans had a chance to view their pre-sale opportunity.

Fans reported signing in at exactly 9:00 a.m. PT and being unable to purchase a single ticket, while tickets went on sale at StubHub via resellers at prices ranging from $300 to $16,000 for one ticket."

Katy Perry Removes All Doubt About Chatbots Going Mainstream ...

Katy Perry: Is it the Music or the Marketing?

A new bot built by a top team is an important part of her new album’s launch

If you’ve been rolling your eyes waiting for a real superstar to adopt a chatbot in earnest, click here. Katy Perry’s Messenger bot, developed by the boutique firm that built them for Snoop Dogg and the fictionally naughty Christian Grey from Fifty Shades of Grey, is now live where some 66 million followers can find it. Perry’s publicity machine. in high gear to promote her new album Witness released last week, hasn’t pitched the media about the bot, because the bot is but a tool to promote the album and its tour. You’ll notice that Katybot is intent on getting your location for show info.

Yep. Or the reality could be decades computer vote virtual manipulation.

Always dividing the American/ Western EU election results - (e.g. 50-45%) to keep the sheeple divided for decades, and not
focused on the Elites in power, but to keep the public divided, fighting amongst themselves via faked computer vote tallies.

Year after year, decade after decade, ad infintum... in fact.:worry::whisper:

lt's like that joke on American Dad -

Stan Smith says, "You know how many votes George W. Bush got in the 2000 election?

    Eight."

Hollywood has seemed to developed a rather acute Twitter paranoid psychosis, RE: all things and anyone
    not kissing Democrat Party butt.

And there is NO WAY 50 million Americans voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016.
(That figure is obviously computer vote fraud.)

    ..........................................

It's the corrupted BBC, and American media acting as GATE KEEPERS (like Face crook,Twitter, bots and bot net, fake computerized accounts, comments and personas, that weaponized the blogosphere, or whats left of it, anyways ... mainly Astroturf Foundation funded, Establishment, corporate protest, news sites, and activism).

It's all window dressing, info warfare, digital democracy, computer voting etc. I'm not saying don't vote - but it's who counts the votes and computer voting forget it. Every country needs an independant election monitoring group from outside the nation, this push button non paper ballot thing Technocrat thing, we need international election monnitoring groups and paper ballots to keep things real.

I voted in 2018, but do I believe the results ...?

    Not at all.
