Since the likelihood of an impending US attack upon Syria has been telegraphed to the Syrian president--the element of surprise, obviously, has now been lost--Bashar al-Assad is apparently moving his weapons underground.

    Thanks Pjohns

Honestly Obama is a stealthy politician who has no ability as a leader or statesman he is fluff and puff completely void of substance and the quality's that make a man. That's why Putin can grand stand an China can veto us at will. The democrats should be proud they finally got a girly man in the oval office. See lady's what emasculation gets you, when you couple it with our federated republican principles and governing a nation.

In my opinion, the chemical weapons are of limited value in modern warfare but a white elephant and a curse to the owner, particularly Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

To Assad, the only value of the chemical weapons is to avoid the indignity of capture and a humiliating death that befell Muammar Gaddafi and Saddam Hussein. He can use the chemical weapons as a last resort to help bring his bitter enemies with him together to the underworld.

If I were Assad, I have no hesitation to hand the white elephant and curse over to Obama, Hollande and Cameron at once.

In the long run, the folly of holding onto the chemical weapons could prove to be his undoing. The Syrian underground facilities could end up as the final resting place and tomb for Assad, the rebels and all other tomb raiders in the last days of the Syrian civil war.

Chemical weapons have never really been all that effective against military forces. And this is for several reasons.

First of all, the defense is trained to most modern militaries and has been for decades. Masks, protective clothing, proper wear and use, as well as antidotes keeps the losses to a minimum. However, these are highly effective against civilians, without such equipment and training.

In fact, I am one of many that believes that the "Gulf War Syndrome" from 1990-1991 is one of many indicators that such weapons were used in the first Gulf War. Chemical detectors going off constantly, symptoms that match the effects of Sarin and organophosphates, and the high use of chemical gear kept the effects from most people. Meanwhile this syndrome never reappeared during any of the 2003 period on, eliminating any kind of natural cause.

Chemical weapons are of limited use also because of the risk to your own forces. All to often during World War I, forces would use chemical weapons, only to have the wind shift and blow it back at them, or by exposing their forces by having them enter contaminated areas. As a military weapon, they are just not that effective, and potentially as dangerous to your own forces.

The Syrian regime did not use the weapons in the Ghouta attacks, the rebels did, most likely the FSA. The sad thing is that many idealogies do not hinder 100% on the actual tennets of their beliefs. For example, in Islam, it is severly against Islamic code to watch pornograpy, and yet after the Bin Laden raid they retrieved laptops and other intel that showed that imbedded messages in pornographic films, in order to help hide the message. The Taliban in Afghanistan severely restricted the lives of many Aghans with codes and rules that are not sactioned in the Koran.

The FSA knowingly and willfully carried out the attacks in order to provoke international and primarily US intervention into the country, in an attempt to help overthrow the regime for which they were losing a string of towns and villages in a series of battles immediately prior. Similar to what Russia said, it makes little sense that the Syrian regime would use the weapons when they were winning. Vladimir Putin said that he had every reason to believe that it was not the Syrian Army but indeed actually the rebels who did it. It is known that the rebels capturered facilities with chemical weapons. The Turks have cought rebels with several pounds Sarin gas in Turkey.

Assad complied with the demand to get rid of the weapons, knowing he didn't do it, because he knew the US wouldn't believe him and that a way to ensure his and indeed the survival of the regime would be to simply give them up. The reason Syria had them in the first place is a deterance to the Israeli's nuclear weapons. Assad said now he has to counter Israel with convential means. If I were him I'd buy some EMP type weapons from Russia in top secret. He fully intends to comply with the agreement. By the way Assad may move them underground temperarily until he surrenders them all, to keep them safe from rebels stealing them

we have become a country that the opposing party never wants the USA to win... it's sad, they always do things to make sure the enemy knows, of course they claim the US people have a right to know, but that just means they also believe our Enemies have a right to know
