Wouldn't you flee if there were terrorists pouring in from Qatar, Turkey and the KSA, and agents from the US, UK, Fr., KSA, Israel and Turkey helping them conduct their ethnic cleansing campaign? The brave ones though remained and fought for Syria's democratic and secular government. Bravo!:applause:

Since in 1961, the country has been ruled by the Syrian Ba’ath party and has experienced decades of international conflict and internal violence. Since 1971 till his death in 2000, Hafez al-Assad was the Ba’ath Party President of the country. Upon the death of Hafez, his son, Bashar, ran for the presidency with no political opponents. He continues to be President today.

    Current Government Of Syria
Syria is considered a unitary republic with a semi-presidential style of government. However, the controlling parties practice a highly authoritarian regime with most of the political power in the hands of the al-Assad family. The President appoints members to the Council of Ministers, issues laws, amends the Constitution, declares war, and approves government 5-year plans. As per the Constitution, the President serves a 7-year term and may be re-elected one additional time. In addition to the office of the President, the government also consists of the People’s Council and the Council of Ministers. The government is divided into the three branches of executive, legislative, and judicial.

Executive Body Of The Government Of Syria
The Council of Ministers represents the executive body of the government. It is made up of the Prime Minister, deputies, and ministers. In 2011, the entire Council resigned, and the President appointed new members. The Prime Minister is the official head of government. It is the responsibility of the executive branch to administer the law as dictated by the legislative branch.

Legislative Branch Of The Government Of Syria
The legislative body of the Syrian government is the People’s Council. This department consists of 250 members. These members are elected to serve 4-year terms. The two main political parties represented by the People’s Council are the National Progressive Front and the Popular Front for Change and Liberation. The year 2012 marked the first time the members were made up of more than one political party.

    Judiciary Of Syria
The judicial branch of Syria is made up of several types of courts including civil, criminal, military, security, and religious. Religious courts handle family law, such as divorce cases. The legal codes are mainly based on French law. This branch is overseen by the High Judicial Council which is made up of the President and senior civil judges. Together, they appoint and dismiss judges of lower courts. The highest court in Syria is the Court of Cassation which rules on judicial issues. The High Constitutional Court decides on questions about the constitutionality of laws, bills, and regulations.

    Constitution of 2012
The Constitution provides the basic outline for government functions and places great emphasis on pan-Arab nationalism. As a result of the Civil War of 2011 to 2012, the Constitution was amended. The new Constitution requires the President to be Muslim but does not define a state religion. It also removed the article that once gave the Ba’ath party total political control. The new amendment states that the government is based on pluralism and that decisions can only be made based on democratically voting. In addition, the new Constitution limits presidential terms to 7 years with a 2-term limit.

You are correct that Damascus was nearly toppled when Russia intervened but, completely wrong about this giving ISIS free reign to conquer Eastern Syria.

    1) The insurgency in Syria started in late 2011 - initially there were a few moderates but it was mostly radical Islamist Jihadists. There were hundreds of groups but these were dominated by larger groups such as Al Nusra (Al Qaeda in Syria) and the Islamic Front. The names really don't matter because they all shared the same Saudi inspired extremist Islamist ideology. This was "holy war" - and Jihadists from all over the world poured into Syria.

    2) By mid 2012 there were few signs of any moderate presence - and this decreased to near zero as the war progressed. By 2013 these Radicals had taken over most of Syria - set up Sharia courts in all the cities - and were engaging in a dark age atrocities, war crimes, genocide, and various other crimes against humanity - posting video's of their exploits on youtube for all the world to see.

This radical Islamist proxy army was armed (with tens of thousands of tons of sophisticated military equipment), supplied and supported by numerous nation states - US, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar, other Gulf States, Britain, Eastern Europe, Jordan, Israel.

    3) In late 2013 many of these groups coalesced and formed an Islamic State IS. The other main force was Al Nusra. There were a couple of other smaller forces but these were aligned with either Al Qaeda or ISIS. Russia would not enter the war for another 2 years - so your claim that Russia enabled ISIS to take over Syria is simply false. They had already taken over everything they would take over - prior to Russia entering the war.

    4) In 2014 - the new caliphate was going full bore - revenue was piling in from oil sales, taxes, crime - and from numerous foreign nations. Our dog in Syria then went off its leash and went into Iraq - further extending its area of control. This created a problem for the US because we were allied with ISIS in Syria but fighting them in Iraq.

    5) In late 2015 the the Syrian Army was on the ropes. The Radical Islamist's were on the doorstep of Damascus. In September 2015 Russia entered the war and turned the tide.

If the Russians hadn't jumped in, Assad would have been hanged and we'd be talking about a democratic Syria

This above is simply absurd ... if Russia had not jumped in the Black Flag of ISIS/Al Qaeda would be hanging over Damascus.

The reason why Syria remains a democratic nation - is because the Russian's jumped in. The election in 2014 -

Assad won with 89% of the vote cast his way.

Its not that Trump is the only one honest about it, he is the only who has ever done it. Assad is a tyrant, and he got Trump to cut and run, so of course he likes Trump.
