I like Pilger's new term--Vichy Journalism, which of course, is not journalism at all. It is merely delivery of propaganda for the powers that be.

Where did it go so wrong? I can understand the media funding push, including Fox News. The media is generally funded by right wingers. But why couldn't even perceived left wing publications, such as the Guardian, achieve independence? I think its a middle class elite that can't even see the need to always question and, where necessary, to risk being "there's no feckin WMD" honest.

The US public perception has been manipulated for generations. Thus, we don't know when we're being fooled and when we're not. We believe the MSM even though it is clearly nothing but propaganda for the status quo.

Assange and WL are unique in that they present only the facts, only the truth, however unpleasant it may be. Many Americans, as Jack Nicholson noted, cannot handle the truth.

And the way he has been treated by all governments demonstrates how they fear him. He has exposed their crimes and their charades.

The worry for me is- despite the success- things go on untroubled. Indeed, as we'd expect, the propaganda has ratcheted up. A world dominated by post-truth right wingers isn't capable of seizing the opportunity

To borrow from Casey of the CIA in 1981, when everything the American people believe is false, we will know the success of our misinformation efforts.

The spirit of Operation Mockingbird lives on, it thrives, it is eminently successful.

Why has the little rat been holed up in the London Ecuadorian embassy for the past almost seven years???Certainly not because of his journalistic ability. He's a weasel.

He doesn't want to be extradited to Sweden. That, plus he's made a lot of enemies in high places.

He's not a journalist. He simply provides people with info that others would rather not be made public. If you think that's being a weasel, then that's you. Many of us are very happy that wikileaks exists.

From what I understand, the statute of limitations on the rape charges will end in 2020. Then he'll be able to leave the Ecuadorian embassy.

I've heard there's a warrant for his arrest in the states, but I'm not too sure what for.

Lots of journalists would be joining him, since they did exactly what he did.

Haha, I remember when Assange was the darling of the left. Guess you hate him because he took a bucket of water, and threw it on that wicked witch you voted for.

    This, this and more this.

News channels and the people who are a part of them have been actively creating news by fishing for any possible connection that the imagination could dig up.

Yes, just like Fox news. The reason it is more annoying from the Left is because there are like 60 different media sources who all parrot the same made up stuff.

Fox only has a couple so the parroting doesn't sound as echo chamberish since there . Don't get me wrong, they are both pure propaganda, no question about it that Fox is no different than the rest.

The funny thing is that all the news channels together get less views in a single day than certain YouTube hosts. Thankfully, we are living in a time where they are becoming obsolete.

Was saying he was pissed at the party because he thought Assange was a hero

That's quite true. It's something the legacy media is struggling with, and it's a losing battle. There just isn't anything that they can do about it. Only old people watch TV these days. The days when you bought a TV guide to see when your favorite TV show plays are over.

Nowadays if you want to watch Gilligan's island, you go to netflix and choose which season, which episode, and blam! No commercials, no nothing but the skipper hitting Gilligan with his cap.

Like 'Salisbury'? And Douma? On the other hand, journalists can be dumbed down just the same as the plebs can be? I once knew a senior journalist when I worked in Fleet Street who thought Michael Foot was a right-on politician; but then he was a stringer for a Canadian newspaper.

It doesn’t matter how good a journalist Assange might be, it doesn’t give him the right to jump bail and try to flee the country. The idea that the threat of arrest for that crime makes him a political prisoner is a dangerous lie which essentially discredits the standard legal procedure worldwide. It is essentially saying that all you have to do is claim you’re being unfairly persecuted to automatically dismiss any legal case against you.

John Pilger is a hypocritical communist and a worthless human being. As for Assange he released his leaked footage of 2 Apaches shooting up a crowd in Bagdad labelled 'Collateral Murder' and edited out all the people carrying AKs and RPGs. If that's your idea of journalism...?
