Each language has its own word view, and it would be a shame to lose all of those. That said, English has pulled vocabulary from many sources, and has more tech terms than many other languages, so it is a good all purpose language for general use. IMO everyone should try to learn at least two languages, so there is really no conflict here. The question is how to go about that most skillfully. I believe immigrants make a mistake when they move to an English speaking country and try to use their defective English with their children. IMO they should continue to talk to them in their native language, and let the kids pick up the standard English they can hear on TV and in school.
I think the only languages anyone needs to know is English, and with Texting breaking the English language to a shorter code form with Emoji and other things its even easier to use for communication than other languages and one form of sign language for the deaf is fine also so who the hell cares about other languages I see no reason to bother with the rest of them. I can however see the quaint value in other languages or for scholarship in fields needing them such as Archeology. But English is the supreme and most valuable language since like I pointed out its easy to use and easier since the rules of English are now more and more optional for communication.

IMO a totally noninflected language might be better--as for example Chinese, which is very positional, with some clarifying preposition-like words, but without the tonal system. Unfortunately, the one-syllable word list has made it necessary to pair up words to eliminate the effects of multiple words sounding the same but meaning different things...a problem the written language helps to clarify across various dialects.

My wife is a Nurse in a major hospital and regularly is forced to deal with non-English speaking patients who complain that they must wait while she gets an interpreter on the phone to keep them alive and healthy...it is frustrating and rather pathetic. If you wish to reap the benefits and enjoy being here, at least bother to learn how to communicate instead of expecting everyone to learn your language. The United States in an English speaking nation....deal with it as a reality or do not live here.
Disagreed. The language preceded "the State". Example; French existed long before the French Revolution.
