At least 6 dead in shooting at Russian university

MOSCOW -- A gunman opened fire at a university in the Russian city of Perm on Monday, killing at least six people and injuring about two dozen others, according to Russian authorities.

The shooter, who police said was a student at the college, entered a campus building at Perm State University where classes were taking place and started shooting with a shotgun.

Police said officers confronted the shooter and detained him after he was seriously injured in a gunfight. He was transported to a hospital for medical treatment and is now in critical condition, according to Russia's Investigative Committee, which handles serious crimes.

Good thing he didn't have an AR-15 or the like. I imagine there would have been even more killed.

Anyway, it's also interesting that this is not the first school shooting in Russia in recent times. I wonder if the number will continue to rise as it seems to have done here.

Here, it's so common that I didn't even feel compelled to start a thread when I saw the news about yet another school shooting in the US, this time in Newport News, VA -- Heritage High School: 2 people taken to a hospital after a shooting in Newport News - CNN
Sadly, it would be news if there weren't a school shooting over any significant length of time here in the land of gun freedumb, but it still seems remarkable when it happens in Russia or Europe.

Why would him having an AR make a big difference? That's a tac shotty, you can run that very fast and clear out rooms with ease. I'll mention now how it took a gun to STOP a madman with a gun. That'll go ignored by our 2A hating friends.

    In other news:

Indeed it is remarkable and no such big deal!

I don't hate 2A. I hate that any moron with a couple hundred bucks and a few lies on the application can have access to guns. Just like with marital arts. It's good to know how to use it but there are better ways to diffuse a situation. The number of road rage, bar rage, suicides by hand guns, school shootings and accidental shootings in the US are clearly an issue and it's not getting any better.

Beyond that, vigilantes are few and far between. It's even worse now that we aren't as "neighborly" as we used to be. I stepped in to help some senior citizens in the grocery store last year because non-seniors were pushing past them and grabbing the last of things they could see the senior was trying to get. Fortunately, the store has a decent manager and he made 7A-8A Seniors only so the whackadoodles have to wait.

I'm not advocating taking away everybody's guns. I'm advocating some kind of self-defense classes and proper weapons training in order to own one. We have to have a license to drive a car but any moron can have a gun and any two morons can have a baby. Our priorities are mixed up.

when people are encouraged to pretend to be fanatical Americans online everyday, day in and day out, don't be surprised when a few of them become what they be acting like

At least here in the US it's a little more difficult to get a weapon. In Russia an AK would have been more likely than an AR, I'm not sure how hard those are to come by.

I've always advocated for people to attend a good (not some sh*t show) MMA school. It's great for self confidence and for exercise. Our school is pretty welcoming to all comers, too bad more people don't take advantage of these things. That's awesome you got to keep some seniors from being manhandled. I have a robbery in progress story from last month, I got to get involved on behalf of a senior too!

Someone has to look out for older folks, that'll be us one day.

Lol at you racing to the story to try and flip he story. Wait, I thought these shootings only occurred in gun living America?

    Quick! Change the narrative.

Except 6 people are confirmed dead and dozens injured.

The US isn’t even in the top five countries for mass shootings.

Actually, there are over 50 countries around the world that have higher homicide rates than the US and none of them have anything like our 2nd Amendment.(1)
