An atheist activist organization wants a proposed Ohio statehouse Holocaust memorial to remove the Star of David symbol, which, the group claims, is an “exclusionary” religious symbol. According to The Columbus Dispatch, the non-profit Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF), known for its activism concerning church-state separation, claimed that the inclusion of the Judaic symbol is a breach of the U.S. Constitution.

Do these people just not have lives at all? They seriously need a hobby!

This kind of thing is the reason people don't like atheists.

Well, isn't it? What about the millions of others that died in the Holocaust?

Atheists are in an odd position politically. Our religious non-belief best aligns itself with some sort of liberty, in my opinion libertarianism in the natural rights tradition.

This is a problem caused by public property. If, as in the NAP Libertarian worldview, there was only private property then anyone could put up whatever they like on their own property.

The problem comes when big government gets involved. Atheists don't want their money being used to pay for religious symbols, just as Christians don't want their money being used to pay for the teaching of evolution.

We can coexist in a private system, but not under the 'one size fits all' nanny state.

It has nothing to do with money, because even if the religious symbols were donated, it still is a separation of church and state issue.

Of the 11 million killed in the Holocaust, 5 million were non-Jews. The largest of these groups were the Polish at 3 million. But that is still only half of the total Jewish killed. When you talk about the Holocaust, you are actually talking about the "Final Solution". The final solution was the systematic exterminations of the Jews in Europe. So, any memorial of the Holocaust must recognize the Jewish sacrifice. That includes the inclusion of the symbol of their religion, the Star of David.

Now, if atheists do not want to see the symbol, they simply need to detour around it. If these freaks get their way, they would have all churches remove their crosses.

The very star they wore on their clothing is not allowed in the memorial. It's good enough to label them, but not good enough to be in a memorial.

It has nothing to do with the government establishing a religion. It is just reflecting on history. Jews died in the Holocaust and the Star of David is their symbol. They were even forced to wear it on their clothing. It is only reflecting history accurately if the star is allowed.

Actually, I totally agree with you. In my previous post I was merely correcting Steady Pie's erroneous claim that the atheist's complaint over religious symbols on government property is solely about money. That is why I didn't even mention the Star of David in my post.

Something tells me that if this were a cross on a memorial commemorating the Armenian Holocaust, they would have just ripped the Christian cross out and it would never have made the news.

Take away the state and separation of church and state becomes meaningless.

It's state property, ie: taxpayer property. Thus, I don't want my tax dollars endorsing a religion I disagree with.

Public property or religious symbols: pick one. Even though I'm an Atheist I pick the latter because it's the liberty-minded option.

So if a Christian group donated a great big cross to put in front of the Capitol Building and paid for all installation and maintenance so no public money was used, you would have no problem with it?

I'm not an American, but if they did that outside Parliament? I'd still have a problem with it because it's public land that I paid for, and hence I have a 1/23rd million share in a property right.

The problem is public property: my solution is to get rid it by getting rid of the state. No state, no conflict between church and state.

I apologize for assuming you were American. With the picture of the Statue of Liberty and the Thomas Jefferson quote... I guess I should have looked at your flags and location.

As an atheist, I really have no problem with the Star of David being on the memorial. It's directly relevant, and even beyond that, I think there's probably better things that organization could be doing with it's time. I don't like it when atheist groups make asses of themselves, because there are legitimate cases to be made too, and every time one of them does something asinine like this, it just builds support against them. It's counter-productive if you ask me.

Creationism and ID are creeping into the education system and that's where the fight needs to be in my opinion.

"Atheist Group Seeks to Block Star of David on Holocaust Memorial"

this one I would disagree with the Athiests on, this was a Jewish religion that was attacked by Hitler and his warped version of Christianity ... master race and all

this is not respecting a religion but recognizing it was Jews that the Holocaust targeted, this makes it a historical record rather then religious propaganda

The star of David which is actually the shield of David is more a cultural than religious symbol.

What? ... Heinrich Himmler for example (a man who was educated to be a humanist - lots of leading Nazis were educated to be humanists) was convinced that there are two different races who are able to rule the world: the Jews and the Germans. That's the reason he tried to murder every Jew - even little babies. The ideas behind the ideology of the Nazis were a special form of biological darwinism (materialism) what had absolutelly nothing to do with the christian religion. Provable example: Leading Nazis and SS-officers nearly never married in a christian ceremony. Everyone during the so called third empire in Germany knew very well that Nazis and Christians were different things. Also today no one is able to imagine an SS-officer who tries to convince anyone with bible quotes. Such imaginations are absolutelly absurde.

Whoever removes the seal of Salomo from a Holocaust memorial has to live and to die with the bad consequences of this deed. On the other side: How to amputate the brain of some brain amputated atheists?

Yep, it certainly is one reason why bigoted morons might wrongly generalise an entire group of people.

Do you know why the idiots are ruling the world? Because the wise men are thinking no one is an idiot while the idiots are thinking they are wise.

almost 70 million died in ww2.

holocaust is a 'jewish' belief that they were just 'chosen ones' for no reason.

The judaistic synagogues declars war on germany almost 10 yrs before ww2 even started. (went against germany for breaking the versailles treaty)( go read about it)

    I be pole......

    Serf blood

of the 70 mil, less than 10 % were jewish

is level the mount (jerusalem) and remove the heads of the three religious beliefs (the three horns (Dan 7;8))

    sacrafice, requires intent

the hindu symbol of peace, existed well before anything of David
sorry, but i find that to be rediculous. How about run right over it?
    OK......

    Matt 16;20

    - - - Updated - - -

Holocaust is incorrectly defining history as ww2 was not about jews only.

The world does not revolve around judaism.
