Are you ready? I have to buy 300 waterballoons for 8 teenage boys for Friday night but reckon I'll just give them a bucket each instead....looks like I'll be drenched either way

Atm it's 9am and still stinking hot so I'm looking forward to the rain... but according to BOM we should be careful what we wish for.

And they told me the gum trees were lying. They have been choked with blossom and that only happens in a big wet

Seems like your promised deluge has been delayed, and downgraded.
Don't you just :angered: the gov't and their monopoly on weather?

English speaking peoples or nearly so, like down under, should have private weather services.

On Saturday morning there were quite a few people talking about how badly wrong the Bureau of Meteorology got it. They have all gone quiet now.

The deluge arrived more or less in the scale predicted. A bit less rain falling on parts of Melbourne than the most dire predictions, but the highest 24 hour rainfall in December for 25 years and the equivalent of the whole month's rain as well. It poured down yesterday for almost 10 hours without a break the centre of Melbourne.

There was minor flooding in Melbourne, but nothing really serious. That said, I know numerous people who are cleaning up after home or work was impacted by the rain. There is serious flooding in numerous parts of rural Victoria, including a few areas very familiar to me. I hope everyone there is OK & stock/crop losses are not too serious.

Fortunately for this English speaking people our Government run weather service gave people ample warning, allowing them to make the necessary preparations.

The BOM is not a Tarot card reader

They give statistical predictions based on probab........

    Why do i bother?

Reminds me of when I read Neville Shute's "In the Wet".

His concept of a qualified franchise democracy still makes a lot of sense.

We got an inch on Saturday and less on Sunday. Steady drizzle all Sunday. My tanks are full!

    OP

Our Met Office forecasts can only be depended upon for 48 hours max. But they have the brass nerve to keep issuing long-range forecasts!

PS I can't get my head around it being 'hot' in November!! :eyepopping:

We use to have a TV weatherman whose predictions were more accurate
than those provided by the Federals.
Dr. George Fischbeck - he has his own wiki page.
Dr. George would deliver the "official forecast" and then his personal disagreements with it.
And Dr. George would have been a safer bet.

Weather forecasting is not about Tarot Cards don'tchyaknow
And privatizing the weather would give we the people, the best quality of forecasts.

I think Australians trust the government more than the US does, when it comes to supplying services like the Bureau of Meteorology. Usually.
We trust the government TV station too.

We received plenty of rain the worst of it Friday lunch time, I was out shopping and my car nearly got washed away as it sits very low on the road. It was 1 hour of rain that came down in such quantities stormwater were unable to cope. I believe this is what BOM was concerned about, the large amounts of water in a short period.

Snow in Tasmania, rivers continue to rise, 73 properties in Wangaratta flooded

The Wangaratta caravan park always floods- I'd be scared to stay there in spring.
The rain wasn't as heavy on the Peninsula, but still welcome.

Remember "We" got out start via those seeking more Freedoms and Liberties that their gov'ts offered.
They got their start as prisoners, rehabilitated prisoners turned colonist, and never far from authority.
The differences radiate down our nation's culture today. :woot: :applause:

    Only some areas of Georgia.

And they were outnumbered by the voluntary, Freedom & Liberty seeking colonist.

It is estimated that some 50,000 British convicts were sent to colonial America and the majority landed in the Chesapeake colonies of Maryland and Virginia. ... Australian penal colonies included Norfolk Island, Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Queensland and New South Wales.

    Thank YOU :blowkiss:

Okay, how about the ratio of good people vs convicts.
You got less Freedom seeking voluntary immigrants involved with your creation, proportionally.
Thus you are more obedient and unquestioning of your gov't, y'see?

You can have the last word because we are so off topic.
    Remember:
    Aussie  gov't
    your authorities
    And  your BOM too.

:flagus:  their system of gov't.
    Never the gov't.
