Bob Hawke is no longer. Loved and loathed, a giant in our history.

True. Maybe now the real story of the reason Bob fell out with Keating will be told? Or to put it ancient Oz “Guess who/is was an each way bet?"

Hawke promised it to him and reneged. Keating later took it in a party room ballott.

Yes, all that is known. It’s the reasons for the hidden tension between those two that’s yet to be explored.

Umm that is incorrect. They intend on cutting negative gearing on established properties and only providing to New properties. The changes you talk about are those from capital gains tax.

Err... constantly I am seeing people talking about this policy and trying to say what it actually is. Negative gearing is the ability to claim from your income the costs of rental properties. So you can provide cheaper rent to claim interest on capital and so on against outside income. You have to spend the money first.

What negative gearing does is provide more AFFORDABLE housing. it provides a means for those who could not afford to enter the investment market a way to do so. Keating found in less than 12 months how detrimental to the housing markets it was to change and quickly reinstated negative gearing.

But once again, we will watch the gap between the rich and poor grow and these idiots are telling us they are doing it... I cannot imagine just how stupid people are to actually not understand what these policies do and still demand the fairness of them.

Look around the world today, affordable housing has become a massive problem. finding areas of rent control and slum lords because of poor insight into a problem of the spread and growth of humanity. Buying into the class war the ALP and Greens live off will only continue to reduce opportunity for the children of this nation and create the divide of deserving to demanding. Often I ask how many have to die for the ideals of others, and here we will see, investors moving to places for more return while the housing market loses value. Keeping a roof over one’s head will become more expensive pushing more into streets. cost of living will continue to increase Not just form this but from a combination of market regulated cost increases, all because people don't understand what the policies are.

Incorrect, it is about the increase in affordable rental properties.

Perhaps you could tell us how you can negative gear a new property??? After all you understand so well what negative gearing is...

Excuse my xenophobia but if we ceased allowing foreign nationals to purchase residential properties (add agricultural land to the list?) a major source of property overpricing and availability would be reduced. On the other side of the problem why do we continue to allow large scale immigration when we know there simply aren’t enough residences available for all, rented or purchased? Something doesn’t make sense here.
Excuse what may appear as racism but why to we put up with the profound restrictions the Chinese place on foreign nationals property ownership in China yet allow them to take up 100% ownership of Australian property? Again, something doesn’t add up.

Mate if it were not for 457 visas we would have to close most of our regional hospitals

How about training more nurses and paying them what they’re worth?
One the other hand having spent two months recently in a neuro-surgical ward in the public system my view of 457 nurses is now one of absolute fear.

This election result is not encouraging.
At least Tony Abbott has gone.

One almost did kill me. I awoke at 2am to a Philippine nurse greeting me with ‘You’re awake Mr Rogers'. That’s not my name. Somehow the chart at the end of my bed had been swapped with Rogers who had my chart on the end of his bed. The nurse did not check my wrist band identification and was about to add an anti-biotic to my drip, an anti-biotic I’m highly allergic to. If I hadn’t woken anaphylactic shock would have killed me. This was only one of many such incidents all involving 457 agency nurses. I’ll be having my day in court over a few of them . So, yes, I’m still alive, JUST.

I was referring to the victory of the Liberal Party, not Abbott.

Roll on climate change. I’m glad in some ways I’m in my mid 70’s and won’t be around to see the worst of it.
Our species is about to get what it deserves.

Can’t recruit. Same with medical officers. No one wants to work outside the big cities even with pay incentives

That is unfortunate but we have had good experience with a lot of them. Smaller facility though and hard to hide incompetents
