What is your opinion on right-wing authoritarianism in the United States specifically? Is it a serious, growing threat or is it just overblown by certain groups of people?

Police departments that are too willing to use force, voting as a privilege instead of a right, unaccountable spying programs, etc. are usually used as examples of authoritarian behavior.

I'd like to hear your thoughts!

As far as totalitarianism is concerned, Lonian, any at all...is probably too much.

As for the police forces...they are often between a rock and a hard place. They have plenty of bad apples...but for the most part, I think cops try to be reasonable and protective of the public.

Near as I can tell...the cops are a very minor part of the major problem. The major problem is that way too many of the puppets who support the far right are willing to support even the over-much totalitarian types.

They...the fools who support the dangerous politicians...may well lead us into serious trouble.

This is what happened in Germany during the early 1930's. The right wing element got suckered...and carried the rest of the country into near total destruction.

That may be what is in store for us.

Replace right wing with both left and the right leaning toward authoritarianism. Then I would vote yes it's a growing threat. But the OP is limited to just the right so my view isn't covered.

Both have inflamed people to the point of installing big brother government's into entrenched power though out history.

Liberal fear mongering is all it is..

They think it's authoritarian just because almost all republicans got elected, but it is what the people voted for..

Republicans are right since Reagan 1979-1986 then GW in 2000-2008 and finally Trump 2017-2021 or 2025. Will the American people elected Trump twice or will they not ?

I couldn't vote in this poll... the poll was horribly slanted, and there weren't any good choices at all....

It's funny how the hyperliberal, radical Democrat Left had no problem at all with their wonderous President Messiah ruling the country by Presidential Proclamations, Decrees, and Edicts -- especially during his second term in office!

Obama did everything he could to ignore Congress completely once the people started sending more and more Republicans there to counteract his dictatorial actions. It was just one damned Obamanite "Executive Order" after another. And now that Trump is taking them DOWN, one by one, the angry, little snowflake hyenas jump up and down, screaming, "Not my president!"

Hint: if we'd forbid people to vote in any year that they have been collecting handout welfare from the government, there wouldn't even BE a Democrat Party! Parasites make very bad, but very predictable decisions, which is exactly how and why we re-elected an autocratic, wanna-be dictator like Barack Obama!

And "Representative Democracy in an American Republic with a Constitution as its Foundation"? Who on the Left CARES....?! :steamed:
