Slate, George Conway and even Mitch McConnell have made observations recently regarding the withdrawal from the BLOTUS phenomen. Couple that with no one wanting the open positions in the BLOTUS regime and now the penultimate senior staffer in the room handing in his resignation.

In most NORMAL administrations there is jockeying for power in order to become a close adviser of the POTUS. In the BLOTUS regime we see the exact OPPOSITE as the revolving door is spinning at RPM never before seen in any prior administration.

When NO ONE wanted the single most powerful position of WH Chief of Staff that was a RED FLAG the size of which has not been seen since the collapse of the USSR.

Which brings me to the debacle of Secretary Mattis resigning and the withdrawal of US troops from Syria and Afghanistan. Regardless as to your opinions about US involvement in those nations what is glaringly obvious is that there is ONLY ONE BENEFICIARY for these withdrawals.

The Machiavellian manipulation of the Russian Candidate in the Oval office by (Ras)Putin is the one who has the most to gain. I have no doubt that he is well aware of the disarray in the BLOTUS regime and the imminent indictments and report of the Mueller Investigation. What little power the BLOTUS might still have will vanish given that it is already being withdrawn means that Putin needed to act now if he was going to obtain the territorial advantages that he covets.

For those who actually care about the power and influence that America has in the rest of the world this ill advised arbitrary withdrawal without any plan, contingency or notification of our allies is akin to cowardice in the face of the enemy. As CinC the BLOTUS has a DUTY to ensure that the troops are not abandoned but essentially that is exactly what he has just done. Worth noting that not once has he ever bothered to visit any of them on the front lines.

So while all of the above is my opinion I have no doubt whatsoever that it is going to raised and discussed by others in the immediate future. The connections cannot be ignored and the failure to do what is best for the troops is one of the most unforgivable of all political sins.

The BLOTUS has done a great many outrageous things in the past and gotten away with them. However the effect is cumulative and now we are seeing the senior WH staff heading for the lifeboats there is little doubt that the BLOTUS has ZERO political capital left and no friends on Capital Hill. For his loyal base of supporters this is not going to make iota of difference to their devotion and support of him.

But the rest of the nation is another matter. The Midterms established that the electorate has turned against the GOP and the BLOTUS and they are the ones who matter now since the next election is going to be about who will be sitting in the Oval office in 2021.

The GOP is currently slowly backing away from the Blight but that could become a rout if there is no one left to babysit the Toddler-in-Chief.

    Your thoughts?

Various senior GOP figures have briefly made negative comments about some of President Trump's actions and/or proposed actions (thought they tend to stay away from criticising the man himself). They then take a look at the President's 90% support among Republicans, realise that for most of them the biggest threat to their political career is being primaried and revert to supporting him.

Until and unless President Trump's popularity among Republicans drops hugely (and I literally cannot think of a set of circumstances where that would happen) then senior GOP figures will continue to support him.

IMO the GOP isn't backing away at all.

Regarding there being only one beneficiary, I disagree. A lot of people in the US believe that the US doesn't need to act as the World's policeman and that money spent on overseas adventures should instead be spent on securing the US' borders. The money spent in the Middle East in the last 15 years would allow Donald Trump to build the wall many times over. For people who think in that insular, isolationist, way then withdrawal of troops from Syria (and Afghanistan, and Europe and Japan and Korea and everywhere else), the US (and by extension the US taxpayer) is a huge beneficiary from these policies.

The negative comments by the GOP Senate Majority leader are unprecedented and the probably a reflection of the diminishing size of the party itself. Yes, 86% of Republicans support the BLOTUS but 57% of them identify as BLOTUS supporters rather than GOP members.

Those figures tell me that the Republican party has lost all of it's moderates and many of it's genuine conservatives. When almost 60% do NOT identify with the party that means that McConnell can NOT count on their support any longer. In essence he has LOST the party to the extremist right wing.

And GOP leaders don't come any more senior than McConnell.

As far as Mattis resigning goes that is obviously in protest to the unilateral, arbitrary and capricious decision by the BLOTUS to cede control over the Middle East to the Russians which is an exceptionally dumb move that will negative repercussions amongst our remaining allies. Putin now has a far stronger hand in controlling those oil supplies and he can effectively exercise control over the EU nations by limiting their access to that oil. The repercussions are imminent and Putin is probably laughing his ass off now that he has wrested control away from the West.

Things are about to change and I don't see them heading in a positive direction. The EU now knows that the BLOTUS is a Putin puppet and will NOT protect them if he decides to take advantage of the situation.

To put it bluntly the BLOTUS has just LOST WW3 by surrendering to Putin. The GOP can't hide from the repercussions of the happening ON THEIR WATCH while they still have 100% control over 2 of the 3 branches of the US government.

Someone is smoking silly stuff if they believe the President still has 90% support among the GoP.

Trump will retain about 32 to 38% of the vote if he soothes the far right.

His problem is that he has to grow his potential vote, and his actions are soothing only the far right and upsetting the rest of the country.

Even if that 90% figure were accurate it is 90% of a SHRINKING demographic that abandoned the GOP by 8.5% in the Midterms with a record turnout.

Those figures are not going to improve by 2020 because the economy is heading south which means a recession and layoffs.

In essence everything the BLOTUS originally campaigned on is failing and now the leadership in his own party and backing away.

I don't see any way out of this dilemma myself.

Trump doesn't need a way out.

The Senate needs a way out.

The way out is simple. Give Trump his border security money.

If the Senate fails to do this, they get blamed for the shutdown.

After a week or so of shutdown.......the pressure will build to a level that will cause the Senate to use the Nuclear Option and give Trump his money.

Then we'll be back to normal and the Media and Democrats can continue their eternal Mueller investigation.

Your beloved BLOTUS has already accepted 100% RESPONSIBILITY for the shutdown.

There is video of him doing so that will probably be playing on an endless loop for as long as it continues.

There is no way he can avoid taking the blame now.

    LOL!

    That was then.......this is now.

The reality is that TODAY he has shifted the responsibility to the Senate.

You obviously haven't read "Art of the Deal."

I tend to agree, the President shows a lot of bluster but when push comes to shove he immediately shifts the blame onto someone else.

To be fair, it's likely that President Trump hasn't either....

Yes, Trump needs a way out, not the Senate. The Senate will not give the $5Billion, and Trump will be blamed. McConnell cannot now invoke the Nuclear Option (go and read the Senate rules). #Thiswillbefun!!!

Everyone knows Trump said he would accept responsibility, everyone knew the coward would blame the Senate, and now Trump stands a coward before the nation.

You obviously never watched the live video of your beloved BLOTUS screwing himself over when it came to "deal making" as far as his asinine wall is concerned.

He can throw as many hissyfit twitter tantrums as he likes but his own words are going to haunt him since this is the TRUMP SHUTDOWN!

How can it be a Trump shutdown when he and the House have positively placed the ball in the SENATE'S court?

You can squirm all you want, but you can't deny the reality of that fact.

It's all up to the Senate now.

(And they have no way out except to come up with a compromise that Trump will sign.)

Wrong........Nuclear Option is available and will be used when the heat gets high enough.

See.........the Senators have something to lose.

    Trump has nothing to lose.

We can easily see how the Senate will cave..........no reason for Trump to cave.

(What are they going to do? Refuse to support him in 2020? LOL! He probably won't even run.)

No, he is not. He is riding from 10 to 17 below break even. Check your RCP.

The nuclear option is not available.

As predicted in the OP the BLOTUS supporters are in FULL DENIAL of reality and will remain so irrespective of what actually happens.

We the People are not buying your beloved BLOTUS's feeble attempt to shift the blame from himself for HIS SHUTDOWN.

You keep repeating your error. The nuclear option is totally available.

    As far as popularity goes.......

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows that 49% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Trump’s job performance.

    That's FRIDAY........TODAY.

And we must keep in mind that the 49% of likely voters are hard core and will show up at the polls.

Don't count your chickens for 2020 if Trump decides to run again.
