The New York Times, Boston Globe, and LA Times, all admit openly that they will not be satisfied with any gun control short of a gun ban.

But even then, assault weapons like the one Kelley used will remain for sale in this country, and that's the fundamental problem. Civilians have no legitimate reason to own military-style firearms. Enthusiasts might get a kick out of shooting them, but that's hardly reason to endanger the rest of us. These rapid-fire weapons, with their high-capacity magazines and quick reloads, are designed for one purpose: to kill as many people as quickly as possible. They do not belong in private hands.

Congress can ban assault weapons, but they account for just a tiny sliver of the country’s 33,000 annual firearm deaths. And tighter background checks will do nothing to cut down on the 310 million guns already in circulation.........In other words, the proposals aren’t just difficult to enact in the current political climate; their practical effects would also be quite limited. On occasion, though, leading Democrats will make oblique reference to a more sweeping policy change: seizing a huge number of weapons from law-abiding citizens.....
The logic of gun control lies, at bottom, in substantially reducing the number of deadly weapons on the street — and confiscation is far and away the most effective approach.....Ultimately, if gun-control advocates really want to stanch the blood, there’s no way around it: They’ll have to persuade more people of the need to confiscate millions of those firearms,

In fact, the more closely one looks at what passes for “common sense” gun laws, the more feckless they appear. Americans who claim to be outraged by gun crimes should want to do something more than tinker at the margins of a legal regime that most of the developed world rightly considers nuts. They should want to change it fundamentally and permanently.
There is only one way to do this: Repeal the Second Amendment.

The gun grabbers are out in the open.

Nobody can ever again say they just want "common sense gun safety". They just admitted those "common sense" measures won't stop someone intent on mass murder.

Nobody can ever again say that "nobody wants to take your guns". They all just admitted that's exactly what they want to do.

Gun banners, whats your argument now?

How are you going to convince 150,000,000 gun owning Americans to give up all their guns?

It will be interesting to see those "common sense gun regulation" advocates here denounce these as unreasonable.

this is about assault weapons, not all guns.

most guns owned by the public are not assault weapons.

    So you say.
Plenty of people have guns that would be classified as such..
    Millions......

yes, and just like with the 94-04 AWB, pre-owned guns would be grandfathered in.

Not me. In fact, I've asked many anti-gunners, those who fully supported Obama's 2013 gun control bill, if by passing that legislation would they be satisfied that our nation has proper "gun regulations" and would they stop there. Not a single one answered despite repeated efforts to obtain an answer. Their silence spoke loud enough.

These people consider a pistol with a threaded muzzle an "assault weapon". These people consider a shotgun with a pistol grip an "assault weapon". If these people just get to make up defintion of what they consider too dangerous for civilians to own, then nothing is safe.

Except in Maryland, New York, Connecticut and for standard capacity magazines, California.

Agreed. More specifically, they've all stated they want to ban "military-style weapons", which covers everything from a Revolutionary War musket to a scary-looking .22.

Noted. What happens when the owner dies?

Are you familiar with NY compliant "assault weapons"?

When a N.Y.C. Gun owner dies, N.Y.P.D. Detectives will be sent to collect / confiscate them.

Nothing new. Every leader in the gun control movement has said they want at least controls similar to UK and Australia where gun rights have been abolished and replaced with privaledges; all guns are illegal except by permit, self defense is NOT a valid reason to apply for a permit, and permit can be denied for any (or no) reason (even paintball guns require a permit in Aus...).

We all know the agenda. We've known for a long time. We arent going to forget.

we have several gun banners who claim not to be gun banners. yet they never ever take issue with other gun banners calling for gun bans.

NY politicians should be tried for treason for restricting any firearms and dealt with accordingly after conviction

which is disgusting to even restrict future sales of those weapons. If cops have the weapons so should other private citizens. its a bright line litmus test.

To the banners, "assault weapons" are all semi-automatic rifles and shotguns. Read Feinsteins proposed legislation, it bans all semi-auto rifles and shotguns plus many pump shotguns.

The left hijacked the label ‘assault weapon’ and redefined it around cosmetics and have been slowly extending the definition to include all semi autos. They have normalized the term among the ignorant, and will continue along the same path until they achieve their goal as the did in the UK. They won’t stop at gun rights.
