I haven't played baseball, yet, it looks fun.
I've played cricket, cricket's fun to play.
Baseball looks funner though, just because of the shape of the bat and how you get to hold/swing the thing.

In my youth major league baseball was my passion.

Back in the those days (late 1950s to early 1970s) the average game was played in less than 2 hours because of the larger strike zone and because pitcher's pick off move to first base was not as restricted as it is today. The pace of the game was much quicker with far fewer commercials in between innings. And we did not have that ever stupid kiss cam. Thus, the game was infinitely more entertaining than it is today.

While more fun to watch (back then) it was even more fun to play. Had a fair amount of success both as player and as coach over many years. Heck, I've even though free lance sports reporting which was much fun as well.

I would give anything to see baseball have a new era of old school play like it was in the old days. Trust me when I tell you that the game would have far more fans that it does today as it was vastly superior back then.

Sadly, I watched very little pro cricket. I read a good deal more about the game than I saw. Today, I watch old videos of international matches and they are just awesome. On the other thread I mentioned the likes of Sir Vivian (Richards), Whispering Death (Michael Holding) [a great tv, play-by-play announcer], and King Dyal. Here is the latter:

In the game of cric, Windies (that is, West Indian) fans appear at games in character. They may wear uniforms, costumes, wear very fancy head dresses or top hats, or dress as kings or as knights. King Dyal was a dandy who dressed superbly well and claimed that he did not work after age 15. Why? Because he said women adored, worshiped him, and gave him money. I believe he died at age 67 and left no working record that I am aware of. He was a legend in his native Barbados.

When I watch the annual CPL (Caribbean Pro League) Championship not only do you enjoy good cric, but the scenery is fabulous, the island girls are among the most beautiful in the world, and the costuming by the fans is unmatchable.

Just look at the awesome beauty and charm of these cheer girls:

One last thing is the funny announcing made in the commentary box on the tv/online broadcast. Danny Morrison is perhaps the world's most colorful announcer:

Not only is he funny as heck. Nobody loves his job or has as much fun doing it as he does. What a character!

    I've heard of David Gower...
after he retired from cricket and was a regular in a sports themed panel show.

Gower was always a strange character who buzzed his opponents during a warm up with this Tiger Moth biplane:

Gotta admit that was one cool thing to do!
