Why do singers have to be beautiful. Surely character and attractiveness are better attributes for a real singer to have. Also we should have more singers who have soul and sing about life like Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday did.

Beauty helps selling records. Infact beauty is, sadly, even more important than talent and musicality when it comes to generating clicks on Vevo. :p

Good looking male entertainers also get more kudos and more $$$. This is true among singers, actors, models, and pro wrestlers.

That's not true at all. There are plenty of really ugly male singers. In fact, there are only a few who are good looking.

Because that's what sells apparently. There are a lot of singers who have beauty and talent too though. You don't really have to be one or the other. You can be both.

Pro wrestlers are good looking? I don't really watch, but they look like a bunch of overly muscled sweaty guys wearing too much spandex.

That all depends on how bad the singing is, I would hope. Like at least 75% of female singers are good looking or at least decent looking, but stage presence also matters. You can be really attractive, but if you are lame on stage and a bad singer, then you aren't going to be very popular.

I am not sure if that applies in the contemporary era of Internet. If you are good-looking, drewling dudes will click into your Vevo channel and earn you fame and money even if you can't sing.

I guess most famous singers can sing and have at least some talent, but the problem is that producers put more effort in creating a softcore porn-esque music vid to generate those clicks and just putting some generic, boring beats together as melody and some repetetive bollox as lyrics.

I'm sure they do that, but that's what people want and that's what brings in the money apparently, so we can't blame the producers for doing what is going to make the money. It's the people who consume the junk that are to blame. We are very shallow creatures apparently (especially men - :D)

Yeah, I know. Obviously the supply looks like it does because there is a demand for it. Nonetheless it is kind of sad to see.

Of the mainstream, female artists of today, Taylor Swift and Adele are to be considered positive exceptions to the rule of "promiscuity>music". They both can sing and are not dancing around on strip poles to sell records. Many artists who actually have good voices are wasting it away.

Lately, Taylor Swift has left her unique style and gone a little bit too generic, but I still consider her a positive role model for little girls.

Yes, well definitely a better role model than Nicki Minaj!

I will post a link to the lyrics of her song "Anaconda." I don't dare post the lyrics here because they are . . . pretty bad. Lol!

    Anyways, let's return to topic!:)

When I was around 10-12, I had a crush on the girl who sings the first verse in this song lol. Must say my taste was rather bad. Not at all as stunning as I recall her to be.

    Still cute though. :p

Whitney Houston was really cute when she was young, and before her drug addiction and her Bobby Brown years. She seemed to be so sweet and innocent and happy. She had such a beautiful face and cute smile too. And she could sing like crazy! What happened to her is pretty sad.

Oh God, yes! I cannot stand Nicki. :puke:

There are more normal females like Katy Perry and Rihanna who are terrible role models too. I would say both are fairly talented but they are being more slutty than anything else. :/

Rihanna's Cake is f-ed up too:
Come and put your name on it
    Put your name on it
Come and put your name on it
Bet you wanna put your name on it
    Put your name on it
Come and put your name on it
    It's not even my birthday
But he wanna lick the icing off
I know you want it in the worst way
Can't wait to blow my candles out
He want that cake, cake, cake
Ooh baby I like it, it's so excited
    Don't try to hide it
    I'mma make you my bitch
    Cake, cake, cake
I know you wanna bite this
    It's so enticing
    Nothing else like this
    I'mma make you my bitch

I think it's okay if it was "adult" music. Lol. If I had a daughter, I would not want her singing along with these lyrics!

Most of her songs are like that: "Come here rude boy, boy can you get it up. Come here rude boy. Boy is you big enough. Take it, take it Baby, baby take it, take it. Love me, love me” and "Cause I may be bad. But I'm perfectly good at it. Sex in the air. I don't care. love the smell of it. Sticks and stones may break my bones. But chains and whips excite me.” etc etc.

Anyways, I am not sure how bad that type of lyrics is for a child who does not speak the language. There were tons of songs about sex that I liked as a child and when I check out the lyrics today I am like "whaaaat theeee ffff?" Biggest shocker was that "a lalala long"-song. Huge "childhood ruined moment" when I found out what it was about.
