So after a few years I found my way back to this place. It's kinda like a black hole.

not a lot of information in the post here but the allege Abe Lincoln quote sounds rather libertarian in sentiment. I call it alleged because there is some doubt about the attribution.

Libertarian more or less. I've been all over the political spectrum over the years. My political views have changed as I matured.

I think I'll stick with neat bourbon or scotch (depending on the scotch) you can have the eggnog.

When politics change and you stay the same...your stances have evolved regardless.

How about your views regarding :flagcanada: ?

Have they matured ? The usual laissez faire ?

regard our America with envious eyes and slowly and surely draw their plans against us.

I know their bacon isn't bacon. And their steel is far superior to that which is produced by U.S. Steel

Seriously though. The steel we use in this plant is absolute junk. About a third of what we get from US steel can't be used cause of lamination and inclusion. But that's cause the government won't let them update their processes. Canada steel is a lot better. But a lot more expensive. We've sent back 3 30,000 pound coils just tonight. ****ing insane.

Why does the government have any say in the US steel co equipment upgrades? I thought it was a privately owned company.

EPA ****. Has to do with their smelting processes. There's been several ongoing lawsuits between us steel and the federal and several state governments.

I saw that it'll be the defendant in the case with Chicago over toxic spills into Lake Michigan. Us steel is having its problems.

I hadn't heard that. I only know about the lawsuits where they've been trying to upgrade several of their facilties for like two decades now but have not been allowed to.

I dug through some of Google looking for the lawsuits. But all its coming up with now is the Chicago thing, the class action cause of their profit loss and the labor department suing them cause they diciplined some employees who were injured but didn't report it.

I think one of their plants in Michigan had been due for upgrades for decades but only one company was allowed to do the upgrades and the state and federal government's were blocking it. I don't remember the specifics on the cases.

But we keep using their coils. It's cheap enough and they support the bad product well enough that the losses in downtime must be worth it. Just makes work harder. Especially considering we go through like 40 tons a shift.

That's so inefficient. Quality control is no longer as stringent as it was. The government can be a bottleneck when it should be enabling competition and facilitating best practices. This is right down Trumps alley and I'm surprised he hasn't jumped on it.

The government should remove itself from business.

Totally? What about import tariffs, customs inspections of imports, airworthiness inspections...
I agree, the government can have a throttling effect if commonsense isn't applied.
We are over regulated in Australia and sometimes people complain about red tape and the size of government.
