    another thing I despise:

at a ball game, some parents will tell their little kids to go play but not near them - then those little brats get in your way, throw spit wads at each other, fight, play tag, curse each other and obstruct your view of the game

what's worse is if you ask the kids to get out of your way, those stupid parents say those are good kids and that you should just shut up or some other crap like that

Just the other night it almost happened again - a guy with a young hyper active kid just wouldn't sit still. The father tells the kid 'go sit there' - next to me. The SOB was willing to have his brat annoy me but not himself. Well, I solved the problem before it started by giving the kid a mean look. Thankfully, the kid stood behind his father and kept quiet after that.

Customer service or (no) help desk people who ask you a question, you answer and they respond with 'Perfect!' like you had just won the $1,000 question on Jeopardy. I grit my teeth so very hard.

Although you and I rarely ever agree on anything, I certainly do sympathize and agree with you on this matter. I daresay that when you and I were children, if we'd misbehaved like the little monsters you describe, that our parents would have employed memorable disciplinary techniques -- deluxe! Mine surely would have....

I attribute this kind of ubiquitous misbehavior in the United States to the overall slide into progressive permissiveness that our country has literally drowned in for the past forty years -- along with the decline and total FALL of our public school system. But I know that, as a rule, your faction usually finds a way to blame this kind of sickening behavioral paradigm on we of the Right-wing instead. So, we ALL just get more of the same kind of unpleasant crap anywhere we are in public. Sad.... These days, I mostly just stay on my own property as much as possible, and mind my own business. HERE, my rules are law, and it is very pleasant indeed, thank God!

People grow blind spots when it comes to their kids, or grandchildren.
My MIL was a pushover for my two nephews. She was talking indulgently about what a pair of little ap sh*ts they were on the train trip. Running up and down the aisle buffeting people, etc.
I asked her why she let them behave like this. She replied that she'd suffered innumerable times with wild uncontrolled kids on the train and it was time for payback.
She never accepted criticism of of her grandsons.
They are reasonably nice adults now.

It's when they open up a conversation with 'How are you, Mr Cerberus?' (especially with the emphasis on 'you' :evileye: :frustrated: ) when I know full well they don't GAF how I am. I always respond with. 'Never mind how I am - state your business or bugger off!'

I have actually responded with 'If I was having a good day, I wouldn't be calling you (I bite of the sarcastic ending of 'now would I?). Just because I've rebooted the computer 5 times and your program keeps repeating that I must reboot the computer to make your program work, I'll be happy to uninstall the BLEEP program and send it on back to you."
Sorry, been a bit of a rough morning on this here internetz….

When I'm in uniform I have to be professional and I could never give a mean look to a kid or parent unless they were endangering someone.

But when I'm not in uniform I'm a huge *******

Nixon and Agnew used to attribute all sorts of youthful and social misbehavior to lefty permissiveness. Then it was disclosed that they were two of the biggest crooks in the USA.

While you and other deluded righties blame lefties, those of us who live in the world of reality know that it is the right wing that causes all sorts of social disorder. Naughtiness of the type committed by brats is just one example.

Was watching some youthful hockey tonight and once again another naughty brat tried to commit mischief. Again, a dirty look from me kept him away at least briefly. Thankfully, his dad stood up away from the seating and the brat followed him there and we watched the game in peace.

Being rescues both my dogs have separation anxiety but they do not bark UNLESS there is a reason to do so. That said the one will whimper and even howl occasionally. We had people staying with us for 2 weeks and when they left to go and visit some of their other friends the one dog howled that they were leaving. She had obviously grown attached to them and considered them to be part of the family. Note that this is not loud howling, more of a moan as to "why are your leaving me"?

I do find dogs that bark incessantly to be annoying because it indicates an owner that does not care properly for their animal. Dogs should only bark for a reason and I can actually tell the difference in the barks that my dogs use. There is the Alert bark that just lets the other know that there is something to check out and then there is the "someone is here" barking that comes in two variants. The first is someone they know and it is mixed with a sort of excited yap while the other is a stranger so the barking contains growls indicating a potential threat.

Perhaps the MOST annoying are those bug eyed emancipated yappers that never stop! Why not just own a white rat or a ferret instead?

English has been mugging other languages for words for all of recorded history. Why should it be the only language to engage in this practice?

I think annoying behavior could bother me.
    Depends on what kind.
The thread is not specific enough.

And sure enough, exactly as I said in the post you referenced, "But I know that, as a rule, your faction usually finds a way to blame this kind of sickening behavioral paradigm on we of the Right-wing instead. So, we ALL just get more of the same kind of unpleasant crap anywhere we are in public."

Tell me, MrTruth, how much more civil, cultured, educated, erudite, refined, and disciplined are we during times when EITHER Democrat or Republican regimes have been in power? Well, even though it wasn't 'perfect' (nothing ever is), I remember wistfully, and nostalgically, the 1980's, but I'm sure you wouldn't. What do you remember as a time when "We, the People" shared a common culture, a common American societal reality, that wasn't like being in a TOILET BOWL...?

Suggestion: Listen to, say, Beethoven's Third Symphony ("the Eroica"), performed by the NBC Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the incomparable Arturo Toscanini. Then, immediately afterward, listen to the 'best' 21st-century "rap music".

    I won't belabor the point....

You mean that "common culture" where gays were still not allowed out of the closet?

That "societal reality" where women earned a mere 65 cents to the dollar earned by men?

When St Reagan was lighting the fire for Out of Control Deficit Spending that would burden us with the $21 trillion National Debt that is still burning down our future today?

Oh, and let's never forget that was when the odious Newt Gingrich was working his way up the ranks of Congress and began his politics of personal destruction that has effectively DESTROYED our ability to engage in political civil discourse today.

Nostalgia for the past is fine when it is something like recalling your mother's apple pie when you came home on a Summer's evening after a day spent playing outside with your friends.

It doesn't apply in politics because, in spite of everything, We the People have succeeded in expanding the rights of our fellow citizens since then in order to create a more perfect union.

We still have a long way to go but at least we are making progress, albeit painfully slowly.

I was trying to refer to the 1980's as a time when we, as a society, exhibited fewer "annoying" behaviors (within the OP's context, generally). But, the next thing I know, you've decided to alter the discussion of "annoying" behaviors to a shotgunned critique of everything from gays-in-the-closet, to 'income-disparity', and, predictably, an excoriation of "St. Reagan"...?

Were there injustices, outrages, and big 'ripoff's' in the 1980's? Yes. And we could probably agree on many of them, Te. Many, and varied injustices and outrages exist to this day! But for the purposes of this thread, I was trying to focus more on civility, refinement, and good taste in former times -- juxtaposed with the déclassé, 'turd-bowl' reality that characterizes much of what the United States has turned into since the beginning of the 21st-century.

Afterthought -- who are your favorite classical music composers? Just curious....

As someone approaching his 70s I know the years you are referring a lot better than you do. Were they ideal? Hmmm, let's see ~ McCarthy? Reagan? Agnew? Nixon? GL Rockwell? WL Pierce? Do those names mean anything to you?

"We the people" ~ I'm more than old enough to remember what some call the 'greatest generation' with my own dad being one such member. He fought during WWII like his brother did. His brother was killed in the European theater. When my dad returned home to Brooklyn he tried to get a job as a dock worker but was told "we don't hire s.pi.cs". This a reference to his Hispanic heritage. He remained a second class citizen all his life as did so many black and brown skinned people of the generation. This belies the myth that we all had a common culture. Being white you wouldn't know about that.

So yes, do yourself a favor and don't belabor the point as you live in your suburban ivory tower and do not have a grasp of what life is in the real world.

Dr Spock came under attack by right wingers only after he declared himself against the criminally imperialistic war in Vietnam. Up to that time he was generally respected by social commentators.

Yeah, my dad fought in World War II also, and, because I'm also an old guy, I remember the entire time period you mention, and the people. I also grew up surprisingly poor and in an impoverished, insecure situation due to my parents splitting up when I was a young teenager. Boo, hoo, hoo. Oh, BTW, there wasn't any big bunch of government welfare-handouts when my Mother, my Sister, and I were going through this.... We had to WORK for what little we had -- just like everybody else back in those very, very different days....

Now. Do you, in your lofty position of being empowered to assess these matters, deem me worthy of having, at least, an opinion? I know that I suffer from the disadvantage of being White (*Ick!*), but can I do anything, in your worthy opinion, to expiate my White "guilt"...?! :hiding: . Next, I could tell you that growing up in Texas, many of us "Anglos" had very good "brown-skinned" friends, but you'd either disbelieve me or ignore it. Poverty "makes strange bed-fellows". Hell, to this day, I am aware that I can understand, and speak more Spanish than quite a few of today's "Latinos" in this country.

So, I'll just close by suggesting to you, truly, that INTOLERANCE is one of the worst things that we as Americans can cultivate, along with groundless, mindless prejudice, against anyone. And perhaps through my long life, I haven't been at all perfect, but YOU are, and you have been...? Ah, what an inspiration! Que bueno!
