Isn't there already a thread about Russia installing a nipple on their oil supply?

Yeah I was a little shocked he tried that on with a cold fish like Merkel. Just foolish. It remains to be seen if it will work out, but it seems like it will unless Putin pulls an about face on wanting to make money more than he wants totalitarian control of everything. As long as he keeps the greed goggles on y'all will be fine with this deal, and it doesn't make much sense to buy shipped in LNG when you have a pipeline available. Not good business.

And we (non-**** head americans) want them out, as we're tired of subsidizing the world's defense budget and tired of playing policeman for the world. Its simply wasteful and it "crosses the streams" (to use a reference from the movie "ghostbusters") of nations in a way that I don't think is healthy for their development and continued separate status.

Putin is not a problem for Germany. What Putin wants is a German-Russian alliance. Something that Germany has no interest in but stable economic relations with Russia are important.

Like I said, as long as he doesn't do an about face on economics vs literal control it seems like it'll work out just fine

And Qatar and whoever you want to purchase LNG from. A larger market creates more security, more competition and more alternative sources for your country and your neighbors in Europe. It should also help Germany transition away from nuclear and perhaps coal.

Don't kid yourself. I've heard Germans tell me that Putin is a problem for Germany (and Europe and the West) and what he wants today is the same thing he wanted while he served as a KGB agent in East Germany years ago - what's good for him and Russia. He has never been and never will be your friend.

Lol...Not when they got you by the shorthairs.
I hope German scientists are hard at work coming up with an alternative energy source. It's supposed to get colder for a while from the lack of sunspots, so it could get very expensive to rely on an essential resource from the Russians.

Well entering international commerce is how Russia becomes a superpower. I don't think it's wise for anybody to do business with them in this regard because Russia doesn't care about the world or Germany or anyone else they care about becoming a superpower again.

This doesn't bode well for Europe. Unless they put some stipulations on Russia with regard to trade.

We have no friends in the world.

Putin knows that a german - russian alliance would rule the world. He openly said that and its a simple fact.

We know Russias interests, we know our interests and we know USA is no friend either.

Too bad Trump is not in charge of Germany ( for many reasons ) .

They could push for more Coal and increase tariffs on Solar

We have many alternatives ready. We get fuel from many countries. Its just that russia is cheapest.

To fill our demand on gas, there would be 20 super tankers constantly cross the atlantic ocean. USA simply is no option compared to a pipeline.

Sad in what way. He negotiates from a position of power. That is the best way. It is disappointing to Sobo but it is what it is.

If they don't want to be part of the NATO alliance then they should hit the road.

Germans want Poles to defend them

Seven years after ending its draft, Germany is trying to entice Poles, Italians and Romanians to defend the Fatherland because so few Hansels and Gretels are enlisting.

President Trump pressured the Germans to keep their word with NATO. Germans had promised to spend 2% of their GDP on defense but they spend only 1%.
