A 12 gauge is a great, all-around defense weapon. The Glock is enhanced with a laser sight. Having both is an excellent option.

 

I suggest a semi auto shotgun over a pump gun for several reasons-well respected gun expert Masad Ayoob noted he trusted the engineers at Remington (1100 Semi auto was the standard for semi autos when he wrote his book) to get the next shell in his chamber over his sweaty hands (to rack a pump)

2) you can shoot a semi auto multiple times with an injured arm

3) you can shoot from behind cover far more rapidly

4) the recoil is less

I was a world class shotgun athlete. I recommend the FnH SLP-1, the Remington VersaMax and the Benelli. for the money the Mossberg 930 is pretty good too

 

What do you do while you wait for them to show up? Cops are ten minutes away where I live, if they head my way as soon as I call.

10 minutes is a long time to be in a house with criminals.

 

If that's the case, I like my AK.

 

I'd go with the glock. Its a tough call, but I think speed and maneuverability are going to be the two biggest factors in a home invasion scenario, and the glock is better for both.

No no, In a home defense scenario maneuverability is a moot point.

You should be using the environment AKA your house/APT, to your advantage. Set up an ambush point with a clear line of sight, once the person is in the sight, end the situation and hand out a Darwin Award.

One of the reasons I like .45ACP carbines loaded with HP’s. Easy to control, great stopping power, medium-high capacity, minimal threat to neighbors. Hi-point actually makes a really nice one at a good cost.

 

if you live alone or if the chances of you being in the same room with other family members in the case of a home invasion-your point is excellent. If you have to go out in your house to protect a vulnerable family member-a child or an elderly parent, then Maneuverability is a key requirement.

Yes, shotgun is better for that, but I dont think most folks are gonna be able to do that. Door crashes in, mad rush to grab the gun and start firing, in the average situation.

I think the glock is gonna be better in such chaos.

 

Fire into center mass until intruder is down. Don't mess around or give an inch. The Glock is my weapon of choice. No safety.

LOL with kids in the household you do not wish to have an all out firefight and I would suggest an interior room with a good door for that wait for the cops to show up and an anti bear spray from a camping supply store aloneg with one hell of a loud siren.

 

1) Not everyone can afford $10,000 for a safe room.

2) Many people who support guns do so for a reason: like me, they live in the country were cops are 20+ minutes away...and then it'd be a single state trooper.

Yes. You obviously haven't priced either. A heavy door itself would equal the cost of a good pistol - $300-500.

Only if it floats for hurricanes. A metal shelter is better for tornadoes.

 

LOL a reinforce room in a neighbor home, of wood survive a class five hurricane name Andrew with the eye wall going directly over and when nothing else did including my home.

 

Both are good choices, and I note that you are comfortable with shotguns, and that is a major consideration.

I actually own that very model you showed. I have added a single point sling. This gives you the use of your hands without having to set the shotgun down. I have also added an elasticized cloth ammo carrier to the stock and a side saddle ammo carrier to the receiver area. And finally, I added a Surefire fore-end that has an integral flashlight.

How we keep firearms in our possession in our homes entails many factors. For me, I have chosen to keep this gun in my gun safe, and I will retrieve it if I have a forewarning of danger. Meanwhile, my Glock 9mm accompanies me everywhere and is always nearby in my home for emergencies along with a flashlight and spare loaded magazine.

I completely agree with your choices, and I would suggest having both.

I would vote ror the shot gun. What ever model you buy get a short barrel because you want to be able to move about in small spaces and also buy stainless steel. If it is only for home protection it is going to have long periods of negelect in the back of the closet (out of sight, out of mind) and you don't want to be concerned with rust.

 

No his home did not survive the hurricane any more then mine did however repeat however the room he had protected and all it contents did survive the storm.

I remember his wife for some reason did not allow people to use her front door and the door frame was still there but the wall was not so I ask her if I could used her front door or would she prefer my just entering over the remain of her wall by the door.
