JFK. Wilson doesn’t belong on the list. Championed the Fed which he later regretted publicly. Horrible President.
FDR Best LBJ Would be best if not for Vietnam. Civil Rights, Voting rights, Medicare, Medicaid are among his greatest achievements. But Vietnam and Indonesia were major crimes and Vietnam destroyed any chance of Universal health care and other progressive policies that have been so successful in other Western nations.
evidently, this survey is taken every year but as always, no question that the best prez is always a Democrat starting with FDR
Democrats toss in theirs as being best. But best at having most Americans killed in combat? Definitely winners but for the outlaw Abe Lincoln.
Nixon, not even close. All the rest of them pale in comparison to the mighty intellect, charisma, suave disposition and grit that was Nixon. He tried to cover for a couple of his drinking buddies who got a bit drunk and went into the wrong hotel and he was unfairly blamed for it. Who hasn't gotten so drunk that they went to the wrong house at some point?
Ford; he reunited the country after much of the country lost faith in the system due to Nixon's extreme dishonesty.
Bill Clinton. While a leader pulling a nation through and out of a crisis (Lincoln, FDR) brings pride to voters, what voters ultimately want is peace and prosperity of which Clinton upheld if not delivered.
It's true, he rescued Wall Street against much opposition and Barack largely just continued his policies, much as Clinton continued GH's.
A good point although it was more than just Watergate, it was the legacy of Vietnam and the counter culture, pardoning the draft dodgers, William Calley etc.
Reagan, no question. He ended inflation, ended a terrible recession under Carter, restored our military, restored our national pride, restored our faith in ourselves, presided over the longest peacetime expansion of the economy ever, put millions of Americans back to work, and if all that wasn't enough, he won the Cold War, bringing the Soviet Union first to the bargaining table, then to its knees. It finally collapsed during the Bush (I) administration, but it was already failing before that. Did he make mistakes? Absolutely. Could he have done more/better? Absolutely. But considering the presidents immediately preceding him and all the ones after him, Reagan was a giant.
bs, his subprime loan campaign choked the finacial markets & thrust this nation into turmoil, the likes of which we're still suffering from to this very day... billy goat, of all, is by far the most anti-america prez, slightly edging out obama in that regard...
