So called 'Catholic' RADICAL O'rourke thinks that religious organisations or institutions that oppose same-sex marriage should lose tax-exempt status.
He said, "there can be no reward, no benefit, no tax break for any organisation or institution that denies the full human rights and the full civil rights of every single one of us." He neglected to mention just exactly HOW the BELIEF of an organisation or institution can deny anyone their rights! How can anyone take this complete and utter JOKER seriously?:roflol:

If he wasn't making those kind of stupid statements, it would be 'O'Rourke who ?". Too bad for Republicans he wont be the Democrat nominee.

Yeah, he's that much of an attention seeker, perhaps he's just saying radical stuff just to be noticed!

The only problem is that all of the Democrats have said similar things about other issues equally important to the more conservative among us. If they had a true moderate. This would be the easiest election win in American history.

Maybe not quite, but close enough that it makes voting democratic not an option for me, a moderately conservative independent.

As Ben Shapiro often says, all they had to do was NOT be crazy but they just couldn't do it! :roflol:

O'Rourke has a sick habit of taking a dump on the Constitution to woo people. This is as illegal as his gun ban/confiscation scheme. The federal government cannot discriminate due to one's beliefs.

Yes, an O'rourke presidency could certainly keep the fine folk over at Alliance Defending Freedom VERY busy! They would have fun legally DESTROYING the laughably pathetic man though!

Many so-called churches have become political organizations. I don't agree about changing their tax exempt status over gay marriage. But all of these pseudo churches that preach politics should definitely lose their status. Hell, at least half are just scams anyway.

My favorite was the "preacher" who put out a video explaining why god wants him to have a new Lear Jet. LOL!!! What a scam! And the gullible sheeple send their money by the truckload,.

That would also include nearly every shul in existence. Aside from that, it's blatantly illegal to discriminate based on viewpoint.

It isn't discrimination to tax a church that acts as a political organization. And it doesn't matter what their opinion may be. If they are political then they are PACs masquerading as churches,

They make hundreds and hundreds of millions of tax free dollars. That is just a scam.

Churches aren't churches anymore. They need to be taxed. Start with that con artist Joel Osteen.

I do actually support a church's right to ban gay marriage. Marriage is a legal contract. And you can't discriminate in a legal contract. But you don't need a church to get married. For all I care, churches can refuse to marry anyone who is left handed or has green eyes. That is a faith issue, Above all, a church is entitled to its own faith provided it doesn't do harm to others. And that doesn't prevent a couple from getting married in another church or by a JOP.

O'Rourke is completely off the rails here. The government doesn't regulate faith,

The biggest issue I have with churches is the brainwashing of children. I was raised Catholic and attended a Catholic School. I have also attended a wide variety of churches since and many are very similar. We received a better-than-average education but also studied religion each day. We attended church before school each day and on Sundays. Before we were old enough to think for ourselves, we were so entrenched in Catholic teachings that we wouldn't think of questioning those beliefs. If we are to stray, we will suffer eternal damnation. We will suffer a torment that defies imagination. We will burn in the fires of hell forever!

They terrorize children with threats of eternal torture. They say they are saving their souls. But it took me 40 years to finally escape the brainwashing we experienced and see it for what it is. And other churches are even worse. The Catholics aren't hell-fire and brimstone types. Many evangelical and charismatic churches et al get crazy. Take for example your basic snake handler churches.

You don't have a right to brainwash and terrorize children with threats of eternal torture as a matter of faith. I think adult children should be able to sue their parents for damages from religious brainwashing. I think people who threaten children with eternal torture should be arrested.

"Beto O'Rourke: Churches That Oppose Same-Sex Marriage Should Lose Tax-Exempt Status"

What he means if they enter politics, they lose the ta exempt status, which they should, you have to pay to play, that has always been the law

So if after church, the congregation gets together to fill out their absentee ballots, is that entering politics?

Either all or none. Choosing which church or any organization that toes one's political line for benefits while denying them to others who oppose one's political point of view is totally wrong.

not if they do it on their own time, if it's a church sponsored event, then the church loses the tax free status

I'm not sure how you would determine their "own time." Isn't any activity done at a church (unless they are loaning or renting their facilities out) a de facto church event?
