Eliminating Social Security provisions that reduce benefits for some state and local workers is not the way to help retirees ​

President-elect Biden proposes to eliminate the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offet (GPO). These provisions reduce Social Security benefits for workers with significant government pensions from jobs not covered by Social Security and for their spouses and survivors.

Eliminating these provisions would be a mistake. They are well-intentioned attempts to solve an equity issue that arises because about 25% to 30% of state and local workers are not covered by Social Security.


Seems like Biden is raising a stir although honestly, if someone didn't pay into Social Security and are receiving a government pension
What is the problem?

You left out the part about increasing the Social Security Minimum Benefit to 125 % above the single person poverty level.

 

Federal State.Military and Local government retirees have Much more liberal beneficial terms in their retirement plans than ANYTHING offered by private companies org corporation. Most of them can reach and take full retirement after only 25 years of service while Social Security recipients cannot collect until age 67 now and their monthly check is based on their 35 best working years.A government employee can retire and start collecting in their 40's,taking a job with Social Security and can work for 25 years accruing a decent S.S. monthly check on top of their government pension check.

 

And your conclusion regarding Biden's proposal? Please.

I agree, truthfully, that even though there were evidently a number of irregularities, Trump lost the election... period.

Democrats, as of this evening, once again, have the Presidency, the House of Representatives, and, now, the SENATE, too. Let's see exactly WHAT they do with THIS opportunity to make things 'fair and just' for American TAXPAYERS....
