$2 billion per day is a big money. Do you think the strike will eventually happen or has Biden succeeded in preventing it from happening? Are workers in their right to demand paid sick leave? Are unions good at representing the workers' demands? Generally what is going on and how will it end?

We are the only "modern"economy that doesn't give paid sick leave as the Unions are demanding. Naturally enough the Republicans oppose this saying that our owners....er..employers should be able to work us until we die and our getting paid at all is just socialism.

Has anyone counted how much money would it take to finance paid sick leaves?

Literally no one said that except for you.
Employment and being paid for it is a cornerstone of capitalism.

Working for the railroad industry has some of the best benefits so how on Earth do they not get paid sick leave ?

Oh, you're right we can't afford it. We have to send another trillion to Ukraine and then there's all the tax breaks to Elon Musk so he can subsidize Nazis, **** the RR worker who caught COVID off an unvaccinated MAGA last year. It's not like he has a family.

American help to Ukraine in the war is approximately $50 billion. And a big chunk of it is the transfer of weapons and other equipment which otherwise would sit at warehouses doing nothing. And we are talking about literally life and death situation.

Paid sick leave? Not so much.

I will just leave a meltdown about Elon Musk and Nazies without a comment.

Joe and Pete took action to ensure the country doesn't suffer. No points for that from Republicans? I'm happy that the strike was averted but am disgusted that the workers don't get paid sick leave.

The only reason anyone needs paid sick leave is if they don’t know how to manage their finances. It’s simply a perk that companies offer to make its jobs more appealing, not some sort of humanitarian crisis that you should be “disgusted” by someone not having, which by the way, they voluntarily accepted to not have in the first place on account of them both applying for and accepting the job knowing full well there’s no paid sick leave.

But of course isn’t that the hallmark of liberals? Ask for something, get it, and then form a gang to attack the person that gave it to you because you think you deserve more than what you asked for?

Our small ass company just offers 12 days of paid flex time per year. It impacts our bottom line but people need down time from work — sick, mental health, personal reasons — it’s crazy to me that it’s not a requirement in the US when it is pretty commonplace everywhere else.

I guess that is only possible because a third of the population demands that the government is as inefficient and corrupt as possible.

Remember the trains have to run on time too, so you don't just need paid sick leave you need more employees because if paid more and more sick days will be taken.
That's not necessarily a bad thing, just pointing out how the costs calculated need to be more than just paying the workers to not work when taking PTO.

    Fake News.

'- The house passed a separate bill to compel rail workers to accept an agreement that includes less than half the sick days labor requested in negotiations.'

    Who controls the House, again?

It's a sad day for America. I know that Biden did this because the voters would skin him alive in 2024 if the economy collapsed again. But it was a cowardly move.

We're not talking about just any jobs, we're talking about union jobs. The cream of the crop. If they can't get paid sick leave, then who can?

Unions are not doing it for free just because they care about workers, right? They charge money for the work they do if you can call it this way. Isn't it strange really that there are people whose only job is to terrorize the business owner or, in this case, the population of the whole country?

Union jobs are like the ideal job in America!

Unions are also like insurance: you get what you pay for.

I own a small professional firm with 10 employees.

We are able to offer 2 weeks vacation and a week PTO starting. We also give another day of vacation for each annual work anniversary.

The railroads can afford it, but that's between the workers and their employer. Government shouldn't be stepping in.
