Biden wants to give anti-violence groups $5 billion. Here's how it could be spent.
For decades, anti-violence crusaders have preached new approaches to curb shootings. Now, the White House is listening.

Deep inside President Joe Biden’s 11,700-word plan to revamp the nation’s infrastructure is one sentence that could transform the way America deals with gun violence.

It pledges $5 billion over eight years for “evidence based” community violence-prevention programs — or programs that treat gun violence as a public health crisis, rooted in economic insecurity and chronic trauma, rather than as a problem best solved by law enforcement. The projects would target economically distressed neighborhoods where Black and Latino people are disproportionately affected by gun violence.

The proposal represents an unprecedented investment in violence prevention. But it’s a long way off from becoming reality. Congress will have to approve the spending as part of a $2.1 trillion bill bankrolled by corporate tax hikes, which Republicans — and some centrist Democrats — say gives too much money to projects that have nothing to do with infrastructure.

Behold! A response to the plague of gun violence in this country that does not involve more gun control. There's the issue of whether it should be included in the infrastructure bill, but it's a good idea either way.

    What say ye?

I say that something should be done. I grieve for America that has had to deal with this problem for so long - especially since it is NOT the same issue here and yet we have many similar problems to you

People in run down left wing controlled ghettos are violent and in gangs because they are victims of systematic racism and are disadvantaged?

Mean while, in white, Latino, and Asian impoverished neighborhoods, the crime rates and gun violence are no where near the statistics of black communities.

What we have is a cultural problem that is now generational. Until that is fixed nothing will solve the problem.

The left refuses to implement programs to address this issue as it will make them victims of themselves.

I guess you're not aware of the existence of Latino gangs, then.

If and it is a big if, that is the case then this program may see valuable outcomes

Sounds like he wants the sort of programs like Oakland has, which has been a huge success

It will be interesting to see gun violence as public health problem, instead of a security risk. I will follow with great interest.

Indeed. Or Italian gangs, for that matter, although that's in the past now.

I wonder if Democrats were also to blame for Al Capone?

There is no such thing, which is why this is a stupid idea! Common for Democrats!

If the program focuses on things like education, deferring childbirth until stable marriage, drug and alcohol abuse, financial classes, and stopping promoting ghetto concepts like violence then yes, maybe that will help.

To be clear, I am not saying these things don't work. I am just saying that we need to have a cultural shift in some communities before witnessing any meaningful and long term change.

This idea of Biden's is a joke right?

First of all, the behavior they're trying to correct starts in the home with a father who's present and can set a proper example. But the left has already called the nuclear family racist, so right off the bat this tells me they're not really trying.

Second, good behavior and respect should be taught in school rather than how much America sucks because we're racist or how many genders there are. Too often violence and criminal behavior in school is either tolerated or ignored - see Trayvon Martin.

Third, the left wants to stop violence but doesn't want a police force, doesn't want arrests, doesn't want prosecutions, doesn't want jail time, and wants to empty prisons. Great message you lefties are sending there.

Fourth, there's gun violence in black and Latino neighborhoods? Really? Since when? How come we NEVER hear about it? Those blacks and Latinos must be some bad dudes.

Fifth, the only thing worthwhile in this story are the interrupters, that goes along the lines of what NJ did back in the day when they had kids visit prisons and the inmates talked to them.

Sixth, getting hospitals to convince gun shot victims not to seek revenge? HAHAHAHHAHAHHAAAHAHAHAHA These are the people who would cap your ass for dissing them.

How much money are we going to throw away year after year, generation after generation, only to have the same result?

If you want to prevent future violence then sterilize today's irresponsible trouble makers. Yes, I said that.

The billions of dollars we’ve spent in black communities hasn’t solved it or even helped it appreciatively yet. Maybe these billions will.
