So it's finally here, the day the SCOUTUS rules on Trumps financial records and can they be subpoenaed and by whom?
I personally think the NY prosecutor is a slam dunk. His arguments before the SC were great and Trump's defense also laughable.
The Congress one is a little touch and go. While precedence is clearly in favor of Congress as similar cases against Clinton and Nixon were unanimous but the guy who presented the argument should have called the guy in NY to come speak for them. Pitiful display. I still think it go against Trump but with some caveats, it won't be a complete victory for Congress.

What is lost if the Court rules in Trump's favor?

Congressional oversight. In NY the rule of law.

I'm surprised to learn that the rule of law has ever mattered that much in New York State, or that oversight has ever been that competent by the clowns under the Capitol dome.

Whoa there folks, step back and take a breath of common sense and tell me what will change politically if Trump's financial records are opened? Then tell me how your life will change? Yeah, who cares about another's financial status, even if the person lies about it. It has no effect on the world.

What is it that you all are hoping to find in those tax returns? Do you really think whatever is in there will be enough to change people’s minds?

this case isn’t about Congress at all.

i think you’ll have a bit of a split ruling here. NY will be able to get some. There will be hell to pay if any of it’s leak though. During the arguments the Court was very concerned about that argument made by the Trump team and questioned if that was the motive o cb Vance. i suspect had it been anyone but Vance, a corrupt dem they might not have

if anyone thinks his tax returns are gonna be made public after today they are gravely mistaken

There are two cases. One can a grand jury subpoena them the other can Congress.

Sure it matters. The harder presidents, congressmen and senators have to work to steal our taxes the better. The more mechanisms of oversight the better. Bunch of thieves.

you are correct...but they aren’t asking for tax returns but for documents related to his businesses prior to entering the wh and asking for them from a 3rd party.

The type of 'oversight' Congress seeks, was unofficially rejected after the early-1900's. It used to be that personal tax information was required of every citizen. They decided that wasn't a country worth living in so they shifted. If one wrote a federal law officially rejecting it, that law would be supported by the people and would further strengthen the fourth Amendment which should be the crux of this ruling.

No one's personal documents, not Trump's, Obama's or anybody else is privy to anyone but those people absent a warrant for information and even then it has to be specific.

You think it matters. After you see the financial records then what will you do? Nothing. We already have oversight -- it's called the IRS and they have no beef with Trump that I have heard of. The fight to see Trump's records are an attempt to hopefully embarrass him by his political enemies. There are also the nosey little people wanting to look who need to get a life. But they will not show theirs.

The New York case is prior to his entering the White House as that is what is pertinent the case being investigated. The Congressional includes more recent information.

NY is asking for stuff up including the WH and Congress is asking stuff dating back years, including business records not personal stuff

Because THIS is what the American people are worried about. Americans aren't worried about their jobs, their future, their human rights, China, the pandemic, the riots, the burning and the looting..... THIS is what they are worried about. Can the left be any more transparent and more detached from the people?

Didn't read thread. Wonder if any of the LW posters in it ever bothered to read Trump's 100+ page FEC disclosures detailing ALL of Trump's business dealings duly provided years ago? Yeah. Wonder how many of the LW brain trust even know that those exist? LOL.

Wonder if any of the "learned" LW on the forum would know how to make heads or tails from a fully scheduled 1040? Yeah.

Wonder if they are just aping the latest CNN/MSNBC headline about "Drump's Taxes" from the daily "Talking Points List" and otherwise have no idea what they are talking about.

Another concern, what will Trump do to deflect from them should he lose? Should Iran being going on high alert?

    It's the thieves.

This is another Dem failure in the making. No matter what Trump's financial records say the Dems three plus years of harassing the president have flushed their credibility down the toilet. Another huge nothingburger, here's a box of tissues.
