Billions of snow crabs have disappeared from the waters around Alaska. Scientists say overfishing is

I know this has happened with lobster on the east coast where they moved north into Canadian waters because of slight changes in water temperature. Will be a big loss for fishermen in Alaska, its likely the crab moved to more favorable conditions.

Well, this will be interesting for the next season of Deadliest Catch. This past year, 2021, the Alaskan King Crab was canceled. They did what they had to do from cod fishing to Beardi and Golden Crab. Now with opilio crab, snow crab, gone, it will be an interesting season.

Where's the evidence it was climate change?

We recently returned from Alaska. According to the crew of the Aleutian Ballad, a retired Deadliest Catch boat, it’s a parasite eating the crabs from the inside.

No evidence. Just a claim and a reference to "attribution studies." But the government would never tell a lie or present false claims.

    Well obviously that was sarcasm.

What is an attribution study exactly. Apparently, it is some new form of study designed to measure the impact of global warming and therefore, designed with a built in bias. This is science? Rather than examining data and draw a conclusion, an attribution study apparently starts with the conclusion that global warming is bad and seeks to use data to quantify the conclusion. Anything bad that happens is global warming. The question is how bad. lol

If that is true, there is probably an attribution study that can link that parasite to global warming.

You noticed that too upon reading the article did you?

Just say they did some studies and you have to believe us cuz they did some studies!

I guess that's very convincing if someone has a confirmation bias they're seeking to confirm

Nothing seems confirmed yet, most likely the fishery just moved, that would be confirmed if someone else has a booming season. I cannot find any information yet on the parasites eating the crab as another poster stated anecdotally.

Not trying to be biased on Climate change, as most people know the earth has constantly been changing regardless of humans. Crustaceans can be very influenced by water temp as was seen on the east coast with lobsters. Slight variation in temp even less than 1 degree can promote the species moving to a more favorable water temperature killing a lot of American fisheries which moved north into Maine's and Canadian waters.

Were there any Chinese fishing boats in the area?
