In a country like the UK, society isn't used to harsh conditions. We've had a lethal chill with no real warning released from the MET Office. A woman froze to death in her living room as did a Teletubby (Tinky Winky is no more). Personally I kept warm watch others cold, because, in my part of the UK, we had no snow, but still cold temperatures, so I was advising everyone to wear gloves/hat/cover up... While Scotland was under snow, we had clear skies and no snow, but still hazard temperatures. I honestly think British society/the MET Office's lack of experience with ice cold temperatures was why no public warning was issued.
There are various parts to the UK. Humans have caused desperate overheating overall, with weird weather conditions everywhere in the world, cold and hot. I have noticed nothing particularly unusual in my bit of the UK, however. Somebody, I suspect, has been reading the Express.
Certainly a bitter winter for those on the streets. A problem which shames Britain as it pretends its a caring society.
IDK if Tinky Winky was caught out in the cold or if Tinky Winky was living rough, but it's even claiming Teletubbies. Britain needs to be more aware to the dangers of harsher climates. Fuel allowance/Energy & Heating as well as advice broadcasted and streamed on social media on how to keep warm? such as gloves, hat, where your body loses heat the fastest/the importance of hot beverages/hot soups... Couldn't hurt, in Croydon in a densely populated high street in South London last week during this cold snap/whatever, watching hundreds if not thousands of my fellow Croydonites and visitors alike all shivering, all not wearing gloves... Made me think about British society not being clued up on harsher weather like our North American cousins are (for example) - how Scotland had so much snow but London didn't have any but was as cold... People that day where I was I noticed, just dressed like any other winter day/when the lack of snow gave the illusion of it looking like just another typical winter's day where I was, only people were under dressed, wearing like 2 maybe 3 layers and shivering. Not me though, I was alright, I was the one advising my shivering friends what to do talking about how it's actually colder than normal even though it didn't look it, tbht. I was hoping it wasn't lethal, but finding out about the woman in her living room and that Teletubby on the streets of Liverpool both freezing to death in it... It's not good.
Never seems to freeze these days. Remember the Russians' satirical barb at us after snow caused airport closures a while back? - "In Russia we have winter every year".
