Shell has a pretty poor history in Nigeria. In fact, I personally refuse to purchase Shell oil due to their operations in Nigeria and in Equatorial Guinea.

Just so that you understand the system in the USA, Dylith. When you purchase gasoline, you are essentially purchasing it from the nearest refinery without your consent. The gasoline is sent to a terminal for blending with ethanol (10 % currently by volume) and an additive package. If there is a refinery owned by Shell near you, you are purchasing Shell gasoline regardless of what you believe and what specific gas station you buy from. Any boycott attempts are trivially influencing their bottom line through retail sales. Lower your gasoline consumption if you want to "stick it to the man".

I'm familiar with how oil production, refining and markets work; I simply don't service Shell stores (even though many are simply privately owned) because I don't support the brand. I also engage in other forms of activism surrounding it as well. Either way, Shell in Nigeria is operating under a fairly poor business ethos, IE: very poor environmental regulations that they maintain through heavy influence in government via direct bribes. It is a very bad deal for domestic Nigerians. Shell is a crappy company.

Shell to Shut Down Major Pipeline in Nigeria
March 30, 2013 - Shell Nigeria, one of the largest oil companies in the Niger Delta, is planning to shut down one of the most important pipelines in the country because of 'unprecedented' levels of oil theft this year. Observers say repairing the damaged pipeline will not fix the problem.

Funny thread title, as if you actually needed to tell anyone what color people are in Nigeria.

There is about a 5 mile long uphill grade on the train tracks near me that runs through an old blue collar area. A guy who used to work for the railroad told me that people used to grease/soap the tracks so that the train would shake a lot when it lost traction and the coal would fall off the cars so they could pick up the spillage for free.
