What have black Americans contributed to America''s culture? I can think of a bunch of stuff offhand. I'd probably start with the movie: "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner ". There's lots of sports stars and performers. Jazz and Blues are probably the biggest of all of black cultural inventions. What do you think?

Please limit your contributions to culture only.

I'll start with an all-time, top ten psychedelic rock instrumental composed by George Clinton.

2 - American rock and roll

    3 - jazz

    4 - the Revolutionary war

    5 - the U.S. Civil war

    6 - Barach Obama

    7 - Colin Powell

    8 - Jimmy Hendrix

9 - the FBI analyst who first spotted White Hat on surveillance video of the Boston Marathon bombing

10 - my kindergarten teacher and her son.

black Americans as a whole or individuals that happen to be black?

As a whole they contribute what everybody else does.

individuals its hard to quantify... we have to start before America even existed. But off the top of my head you have vast contributions from George Washington Carver, Martin Luther king Malcolm X. And these are really just the famous people. Like I said it's hard to quantify.

In the 16th, 17th, 18th & 19th centuries the great centres for musical invention were places like Vienna, Paris & London. In the 20th century it was the Mississippi River - New Orleans, the Delta and Memphis produced jazz, blues & rock music. Just think of how remarkable a change that was - a shift from ancient bastions of 'high' culture to some of the poorest parts of a nation founded 150 years earlier.

The primary driver of that change was the African-American cultures of the Mississippi valley.

Do you have any research to prove that those were invented by black people?

    Sorry.

I meant to have a positive discussion.

I am pro-'black' people and wanted to stimulate a non-political discussion. I wanted to give others an opportunity to post positive things about 'black' people.

    "Pro-Black" IS a "political position." A Race-based one.

"So" YOU said you wanted a ""Non-Political"" discussion.
Did you not understand the hypocrisy of your position and my highlighting it?
This is like "I got caught but so what."

    OK.

    I hate "black' people.

I am looking for people to change my mind.

What do you see as 'their' contributions?

Everyone should read The Histories by Herodotus who was the father of Greek history. Among the things he wrote about was how Greek culture derived much of its advancements to ancient Egypt. Among these were architecture, art, music, martial arts, and medicine.

In a way, I think it's sad to be "pro-black". There is all kind of people with black skins, *******s, good people, brave and active or constantly plaintive. You don't have to appreciate people because they happen to be black, a lot of them are *******s like the rest of mankind and don't have to be appreciated. By the way, some will play the race card to hide their uninteresting personnality, but they're just pathetic loser. Like in the rest of mankind, even if there is a specific black american culture and codes. I'm not sure that giving a colour of skin to culture is a good things.

Jessye Norman is a good soprano.

    I would dispute ribs.

What evidence is there that black people invented ribs?

I don't have any actual proof but years ago there was a rumor in NYC that Satchel Paige joined with Father Time to invent beer. Satchel was known for munching on ribs every time he played or visited Kansas City so it's a good bet that if that rumor was true, he likely invented ribs dinners as well:

    Peanut butter.

And don't tell me its not 'cultural.' Its a staple of bachelors across the nation, and probably the #1 storable survival food.
