I'm about to get on a meeting so I have to type this fast.. lol -- I would agree that racism exists in any group of people and is usually subtle and specific to cultures. For instance in the carribean people are more strongly against homosexuals. Then looking at conflicts in Africa, people we may see as the same are very different to each other. Same with whites on whites though out time etc. OK I have a point here, despite that we are all capable of being in such a position, BUT I am going to assert that blacks living in more white societes (and this goes for other groups as well) are going to be less inclined to be racists due to their immersion in said (white) culture. Anyone agree ? Disagree?
Perhaps SOME blacks that consider themselves "Americans" instead of "American-Africans" are immersed in American culture and may be less inclined to be racists, but it is far more prevalent that many American-Africans resent American culture, and Americans.
I've hardly seen that. Hollywood, TV, media, schools, euro-centric history, large number of dealings with white majorities; I would not agree that with all of that, blacks would "hate" on the level you have seen in whites to be quite honest.
What I see is that most Americans go about their daily lives without thinking one iota about skin color. Yes, there are a few white racists out there. Most blacks, on the other hand, pride themselves in the color of their skin and hold on to their African roots... The sooner that we can all consider ourselves "American" (or human) and avoid using a hyphen to describe our origin or taking pride in one's skin-color, the sooner we can put racism behind us. Until that happens, nothing significant will happen.
As you know, THEY label themselves and THEY label others. Until THEY don't see everything through dark-skinned glasses THEY CHOOSE to wear, THEY will be doomed to be forever, the "victims"...
I would think for white people, they can go about their daily lives without thinking about color. They're the majority so so it's so much easier for whites to ignore race. By the same token, as a minority, it's virtually impossible for black people to ignore race. They are faced with it every second of every day. They may feel judged by others based on color, every comment, every glance has to go through a filter - is this a racial remark? Is he saying that because I'm black? Did he not pick me to head that project because of race? So I would think that blacks living in white societies would be more racist towards whites than if they were living in all black or black majority societies.
I don't think blacks should have the option of changing their identity from African American to American. To do so would dishonor all of the suffering of their ancestors. The term American really doesn't belong to anyone because of the rampant division in the country. We should all designate the type of American we are like Latino American, European American, etc.
you could be right but not because of white skinned societies values...there is nothing like being the victim of injustice to make you aware of it, if everyone had the pleasure at one point in their lives of being discriminated against because of the colour of their skin it would maybe enlighten them to the stupidity of racism...I've been there, I felt the hatred directed at me because of my white skin and it bloody hurt, it was offensive...
Yeah I know, the projects built, the welfare extended, the grants made...I know, the horror of it all... They need to pick themselves up, police their own, and pull themselves out of the cesspool they have allowed themselves to languish in for so long. Pitying them, has made them pitiful creatures. - - - Updated - - - Yeah I know, the projects built, the welfare extended, the grants made...I know, the horror of it all... Yeah, give us some examples of how these blacks have been horrendously treated and who is treating them this way, and why they should feel resentful. You might want to come down off of your current racial guilt trip before attempting to answer that one.
as someone who claims rape is not a crime you have nothing of moral or intellectual value to offer humanity or this forum of adults...
we've already established what you are morally on another thread there's no need to come out here and verify your repugnant racial beliefs...
What am I morally then? Fair? Just? Wanting everyone to have a fair chance at succeeding without special favors? Is it right that the left wing has crippled african americans by fostering a victim's mentality? Not hardly. I would have them learn to be strong and independent as the rest of us. But in order to do that, one must treat them like equals first - meaning no handouts. You cannot claim to be my equal if I am helping you every step of the way. That must be done on your own. Tough love is still love.
Its human nature to prefer to be around your own. Throughout american history people of the same ethnicity and culture and color have clustered in their own neighborhoods. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being more comfortable around those that look like you and have the same cultural more'. Theres alot of well meaning people that harp so incessantly on racism and in the course of that throw barbs either intentionally or inadvertently and that makes the whole thing just worse, after awhile its like indian rope burn.
Ah yes, the wyly coyote strikes again leaving us all wondering if he has enough moxie to answer the questions handed to him. Looks like that will never happen.
