...came back to haunt Michael Ertel, the newly appointed Florida Secretary of State. It seems Mr. Ertel attended a Halloween party in 2005 dressed as a female Hurricane Katrina victim while wearing blackface. He was working as a state employee at the time. He resigned from his Secretary of State job a few hours after the pictures were made public. Gov. DeSantis accepted his resignation. He did the right thing by resigning, in my opinon. He may not be a racist, but he used poor judgment. What do you folks think? Should he have lost his job for something he did 13 years ago? Was what he did racist?
it depends how he lived his life since i suppose. it was a position of influence he held and ones past should not include a "blackface" episode if you seriously want to move forward. Imo thats just a really worrying thing to have done for someone trying to get in top tier government positions. why risk a closet racist in such a role? Surely there are more grounded alternatives.
