The area is not exactly a ghetto. Comedy Theatre, bike tours... Looks fairly gentrified already. Check it out on g-maps.

Trader Joe's is like Whole Foods, it sells Yuppie Chow, not anything you're really meant to eat. The whole idea of these stores in just to place their reusable bags on the rear seat and try not to let people see them while you're in McDonalds

What is interesting is that the article says ". A company owned by African-Americans in Portland had been slated to build it."

I guess that the blacks in this area don't want jobs or market growth.

Sounds like you do not like good fresh produce, interesting tasty food, pre-made delicious salads and wraps or near gourmet frozen products.

It is the way it works. Some times it succeeds some times it doesn't THATS the marketplace. And the sales taxes produced and the employment taxes exceed the tax abatements. And yes even a small business can apply with their local government for jncentives to improve property and build a business.

How does that make it 'white', though?

    Are you W.C. Field's Ghost ???

I know that address, that lot is worth less than the adjusted price and will help everyone, not only Hipster Doofis types.

Everyone likes to save money, and not only White Folks buy at Trader Joe's, most Supermarkets overcharge here in Portland Ghettos.

Kudos for catching the W.C. Fields rip off. As for a store in that area, an Aldi's would be much better for the neighborhood. I've shopped at both and Aldi's is better. I've lived in Portland, twice, once before and once after Cali fornication set in, and I lived downtown.

Sounds good, but you must understand the young people in Detroit on average are extremely lazy.

Why should they work when they can either sit on their behinds and get dozens of entitlement benefits, or stand around and sell narcotics, or be part of a gang that gives them power and a chance to do violence?

Only if there were overseers with guns forcing young people to work food plots would any more than maybe 2 or 3% of them have the values and motivation to help work doing farm work for no pay.

You must also understand that gangs that control these vacant areas would likely rob, rape or kill a good number of volunteers---and damage the crops.
