Back on topic, Bloomberg may be breaking the law and subjecting those who "receive value" from his generosity might be found in tax situations.

So you would call Trump's gutting the Ethics Committee and disregarding their numerous reports of ethics violations by White House staff as "correcting" the ship?
You have to be ****ing kidding me.

You honestly think that Bloomberg doesn't have ten law firms guiding how he has done this? Get real, dude.

So now, paying ones fines is equivalent to "buying votes". :)

Another post that belongs in the conspiracy section. :)

Big difference. The felons were pardoned for no other reason than to vote against Trump and you know it.

FYI, while one can argue that the use of inmates for public works, they are getting paid. That legal issue would be compensation, and about as far away from slavery as one can get :) If you want, we can take this further into the early release, I presume you are not equating that with slavery too :)

Then ....., we can talk about other state prosecutors that used inmates for public work.

Certain states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia and Texas, do not pay wages for such work assignments.

Let me know if you ever had personal experience with corrupt DA's and higher up !!!!!!

I'm sure the court system appreciates the positive cashflow, saves a LOT of hassle.
I'm fine with it but its pretty blatant and tacky.

Could Charles Koch gather together & buy 10s of thousands if fill ups at the gas station? Or pay everyone's speeding tickets?

Could trump give away free hotel rooms?

Is there a line in the sand somewhere?

There is undoubtedly a line. I think the key difference is that in all of your scenarios, people already have the right to vote. The payments might influence the person for whom they might vote.

Bloomberg’s idea is to restore the ability to vote. They can then vote for whomever they like.

Well then, the flip side, those imposing the fines are supressing votes. Then we can talk about the secret ballot and what that means.

The State imposed fines, jrestitution and court cost when you get convicted of a crime. They can be really high for violent crimes. It is part of the convicts punishment to pay it off.

if a thug breaks into my house, breaking a window, assaulting me and putting me in the hospital why shouldn't he pay for what he's done?
