Only the genuine refugees get to stay (and the majority are genuine).

I have no problem with genuine refugees. Do you?

The majority are found to meet the requirements of being a refugee.... that is completely different from actually being a genuine refugee. Given the lengths (including illegal) to get here its a long bow to associate truth to their claims.

Its why it takes so long in processing at refugee camps, unravelling the lies these middle class welfare immigrants have constructed to faciliate meeting the Australian's policies to ascertain genuine refugee status.

Unfortunatly the nature of being a real refugee means all you have to do is turn up and have some proof of coming from one of the places which we consider a source of refugee's. That is easy to manufacture for people with cash and these middle class welfare immigrants have cash, probably in other names in foreign banks waiting for them to access later unless they spent it all travelling around the world to get to Australia directly (queue jumping).

Please dont start on about how there is no queue BS... the term queue doesnt represent a single line of people, it represents the chance someone has to get to Australia via the proper procedures versus someone who breaks the law to arrive directly unto Austrlalian territory, and in the context of processing duration.

The process seems to ignore how much money was spent getting to the coast of Indonesia and how much money was then spent on paying people smugglers (and paying them with what, cash, services, children!?) by these very same people, and how many international and foreign laws they broke on the way over.

They are taking advantage of the policy designed for the genuine helplessness of real refugee's to slip through loopholes just to get themselves into Australia at huge cost to everyone. The intent of the law is being broken, but the letter of the law is not. But I guess you support people taking advantage of others by abusing the letter of the law for your own gain as evidenced by your position on this issue.

I had no intention. However, now that you've brought it up ...
I'm fully aware of what the term represents.
That's right, and seeking asylum in a boat with or without a visa is one of those proper procedures.

If they meet the requirements, that means they are genuine refugees.

No it doesnt, it means they have met the requirements to be considered genuine refugees.... not that they are genuine refugees.

They are no more tha scavengers of the world, looking for a country stupid enough to suck up to UN officials and so PC as to be afraid, as we say in OZ, of calling 'a spade a spade and not a shovel.

These hordes of 'illegal scavengers' must be ,with their congo line of dependents and Legal Beagles, laughing all the way to the bank, courtesy of the Aussie taxpaye of course!

It is nice to know you have so much compassion for people who have fled violence and rape and forced marriages. I, for one, am happy to allow these people into my country.

Why most definatly, because it makes perfect sense. Depending on how you use it you might make yourself look like a fool though.

See you've got no point I'm afraid in the real discussion... your only position is that because they've met criteria to be called a refugee that they therefore are now refugee's - but that is completely irrevelant to the discussion - which is whether they were/are genuine refugee's before any Australian determination of status is decided upon.

Mr Asylum arrives at coast after spending lots of money and breaking foreign laws to get here, put the rest of his money in foreign banks under another name, and claims to be from an oppressed village in refugeevile but has lost all his papers except for some photos of his village when he was a kid etc. The process can only reach a determination that he 'must' be a refugee because he meets specific criteria - when in fact in actuality he is not genuinely a refugee seeking refuge, but rather a middle class economic migrant taking advantage of a systen designed and funded to support the truely impoverished and threatened. The political left argument about being compassionate to boat people is a huge hypocrisy in the real world.

The fact that the current crop of boat people lie and break laws to get here should indicate that they are probably still lieing and breaking laws to continue their journey of getting into Australia. Its been determined the people smuggling network is not a free service so to claim they are poor and impoverished peoples escaping oppression is pretty stupid. Its just the government with its policy as it is now is wide open to criminality to sneak in.

    True.

Just because the duck has 'met the requirements to be considered' a duck, it doesn't mean he's a genuine duck.

    LOL

Just like Ducks, these 'illegals are no more than scavengers.

'The Role of Scavenging Ducks, Duckweed and Fish in Integrated Farming Systems in Vietnam'

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Bui Xuan Men

Faculty of Agriculture, Cantho University, Vietnam

'There are some 30 million ducks raised annually in Vietnam. Most are scavengers raised seasonally in rice fields during the early growth of the crop and immediately post-harvest; and in backyards or gardens of farm households throughout the year.'

Do we really want hordes of scavengers in Australia?

Your taking a very one sided approach to the reality of how people smuggling actually works for people from the other side of the world who deliberatly undertake such a journey when they could seek UN support at many locations much closer to their starting points - but no, there only interest is economic migration and taking advantage of the humanitarian refugee program which they truely do not belong too.

It's already established there is no way to determine if they are ducks or geese and the system has to revert to calling them ducks even if the geese are dressed as ducks. Stay with the program guys!!!

It only means that the spade has met the requirements to be considered a genuine spade .... not that it is a genuine spade.

If it walks like a duck, looks like a duck then it must be a duck! In this case a very dirty, demeaning, demanding ducks, scavenging off the Aussie taxpayer, and trampling all those who might get in their way,

Has it occured to you to wonder how many of these people have actually indulged in these practices? How many bring with them to the country that your children, and theirs will live in, a culture and mindset that lend themselves toward this type of behaviour? Our primary responsibility to conserve and improve our own country takes precedant over a self satisfying feel good.

Actually I think you have a point, the problem is that our UN obligations require us to give asylum to those deemed as genuine refugees, this isnt going to change under any government. From memory I believe that Australia doesnt even take in its quota, I would like to see us take in as many refugees as possible but of our own choosing. i.e. An appropriate cultural mix rather than from one particular ethnicity. The current immigration policy seems to be heavily focused on the middle east, I think we are setting ourselves up for trouble.
