    IMAGINE MY SURPRISE.

WASHINGTON — President Trump directly tied the withholding of almost $400 million in American security aid to investigations that he sought from Ukrainian officials, according to an unpublished manuscript of a book that John R. Bolton, Mr. Trump’s former national security adviser, wrote about his time in the White House.

The firsthand account of the link between the aid and investigations, which is based on meetings and conversations Mr. Bolton had with Mr. Trump, undercuts a key component of the president’s impeachment defense: that the decision to freeze the aid was independent from his requests that Ukraine announce politically motivated investigations into former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and his son Hunter.
    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/26/...tion=click&module=Top Stories&pgtype=Homepage
    .............................................................................................................
    Paraphrasing from the article.................

Multiple people described Bolton’s account. A draft of the manuscript was sent to the White House in recent weeks for a standard review process. So........Team Turd has been aware of the damning nature of the manuscript for days. (No wonder it was reported last week they were working hard behind the scenes to keep Bolton from testifying.)

During a conversation in August with Individual 1, Bolton mentioned his concern over the delay of the $391M in congressionally appropriated assistance to Ukraine as a deadline neared to send the money. Duplicitous Don replied that he preferred sending no assistance to Ukraine until officials had turned over all materials they had about the Russia investigation related to Mr. Biden and supporters of Hillary Clinton in Ukraine.

According to Bolton, Pompeo and Esper joined him in pressing President Flim Flam to release the aid in the weeks leading up to the August meeting. (something either the NYT or WP reported.....I can't remember which........showing the accuracy of the reporting about Baby Donald once again)

Bolton wrote that Pompeo privately acknowledged to him last spring that Slimy Rudy's claims about Yovanovitch had no basis.
    .......................................................................................................
I can hear the indignant cries of "fake news" now. Despite the fact that the reporting on this matter has been spot on. Giving more color to what every single witness testified to during the House inquiry.

So........pucker up all you Trumper's. This is when you get off the "perfect call" train and jump on the "okay he did everything he is accused of doing but I don't care" escape pod. It's where I thought you'd go all along.

RW media defense, which is then verbatim repeated by Trump legal team in Senate hearings, as well as his fans:

    -Old news
    -Fake news (NY Times)
-Even if true, still not a crime
-Lefty plot to steal the election
-Bolton just wants to sell his book

I don't care because all Trump has done is what all politicians do with everything they say and do - they try to develop personal political advantage. Get back to me if he commits an actual crime.

John Bolton’s bombshell gives the GOP a glimpse of its nightmare scenario
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...ell-gives-gop-glimpse-its-nightmare-scenario/

    • Bolton writes that he heard Trump say explicitly that the withholding of military aid would continue until Ukraine announced an investigation involving the Bidens — implicating Trump directly in a quid pro quo for the first time and contradicting the Trump team’s defense.
    • He writes that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said privately that there was nothing to the Trump team’s claims that then-Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch was corrupt — suggesting that this was indeed a smear campaign and that Pompeo recognized it as such, even as he didn’t defend Yovanovitch publicly.
    • He writes that he raised concerns about Rudolph W. Giuliani’s efforts in Ukraine with Attorney General William P. Barr after Trump’s July call with Ukraine’s president — despite the Justice Department saying Barr learned about the call in mid-August.
    • He writes that acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney was present for one of Trump’s calls with Giuliani about Yovanovitch, even though Mulvaney has told associates that he stayed out of those conversations to protect Trump and Giuliani’s attorney-client privilege.

    Bingo.

    Donald J. Trump

    ✔@realDonaldTrump

I NEVER told John Bolton that the aid to Ukraine was tied to investigations into Democrats, including the Bidens. In fact, he never complained about this at the time of his very public termination. If John Bolton said this, it was only to sell a book. With that being said, the...

Gosh. And what happens if, or when Bolton denies that this is, in fact, part of his actual writing? Also, given the leak, doesn't the publisher of the memoir now fall under campaign finance problems, ie, providing in kind political campaign funds? That sure sounds like a nono.... But who cares, right? The left now has to eagerly kiss Bolton's butt publicly. And isn't that delicious in and of itself?

The OP is right, we knew this all along. But it still doesn’t rise to level needed to remove a president from office.

    We need to move on.

The problem is that you know he's a crook but now that he said something that supports your view about Trump you believe him.

I would add that Bolton so far hasn't been named as the whistleblower, so you still have all that gooey corruptive narrative about how Schiff illegally crafted the narrative in the first place, none of which absolves Schiff for his complicity for his own illegal actions that initiated the impeachment in the first place. But it might make real theater to have to make Schiff cozy up to Bolton for a while in the media... So rich...

When they offer the leader of a foreign country a "QUID PRO QUO" of the already congressionally approved foreign aid, they were already getting, in exchange for the PUBLIC pronouncement of an investigation into a political opponent they have broken a law.

The strange part of this is that the White House has had a copy of the Bolton book in it's possession since December 30 as they have to make sure there is no classified information being disseminated by it before it is released??Apparently they did not read it??

Just like Tillerson, Mattis, Kelly, Cohen, Parnas etc., who worked with trump and now are persona non grata? Giuliani is next in line.

No matter how many step up to the plate and speak out, it is always the others who are the crooks, Trump is as clean as white snow....

I bet the talking point the Trump Chanel will be pushing is going to be "there's nothing new"

Damn right it's nothing new! Bolton is just confirming what the MSM reported months ago, and all witnesses declaring under oath confirmed during the Impeachment in the House. Bolton reiterates the same and will provide more details as a much closer Trump insider.

Who would have thought Bolton would be Trump's John Dean. Yuch! I doubt John Dean would appreciate the comparison.

Technically speaking, EVERYONE who has worked for Trump has a grudge against him. That's the sort of leader he is.
