I wonder if you're a British-American living in France now.

Not that it matters, allo de Londres.

I know a lass from France, did her masters in London, works with Americans and has lived in the Congo and is loved by all who meet her. Friend of yours?
And of course soyez le bienvenu.

I was British born, parents emigrated to the USA where I spent 17 years before moving back to the UK , taught Eng. Lit and Language for a full career in the Midlands and then moved permanently to France. I avoid cities but have visited Kenya once 8). Enjoyed it very much!!

    Vive la Republique!
Did you watch Marine's last "debate"? She should refrain from further embarrassing herself. Nevertheless, her party remains popular. Goes to show that America and France often have things in common, but not always good things. The "right" and "left" in both places are egregiously missing the mark.

Marine LePen is a useful threat to whoever is running for President in France.

I don't know when you last saw the UK, but, today in the UK; classic Baywatch is on now at 11 am and Taco Bell now have a bigger presence in the UK.
Spitting Image came back in late 2020.

No I retired a while back.
I have always wanted to live in France, mostly because of life's opportunities. I found one in working Border Collies and ended up shepherding in the Pyrenees, breeding 8 litters from UK bred dogs (best in the world) and selling them into Italy, Switzerland, Slovenia and all around France. I used to go to the buyers' house/farm to see where the dogs were going and discovered a lot about the country.
I became a proud French citizen in October 2019 and am in the process of selling and buying my 5th house here...sadly as I love this one but OH has a heart condition and this is too much to keep up as it deserves.
and sadly I don't do BC's anymore...they are a demanding breed and that's just the sheep!
Still love it here...I miss nothing about the UK.

Yes... life in a third world nation can be impressive.

I taught English in Quito, Ecuador for over a year and I also loved it there.

    Welcome to the forum.

What is France's most remote area? I'm going to be writing a story about someone who encounters a surviving Aurochs and I get the impression they would likely be found there, is that the case?

The last one was found in a forest in Poland. The largest remaining medieval forest wildernesses are in Eastern Europe so if you were going to find one I'd expect it to be there.
If it has to be France then the Forest of Orleans is the largest ancient forest left but it's not really very remote.

Welcome, Pixie. I'm a dual citizen of the United States and one of the main European Union countries (I don't like to say which one; too much personal information to be added to the bits and pieces I've already revealed so at some point someone might identify who I am in real life, and some of the trolls are crazy so I like to keep the anonymous aspect of this forum). I love France very much; it's a great country. The idea of retiring in Europe is not excluded for me; for now I still enjoy my work here in the USA, and while I can perfectly afford to retire, I don't want to. But in a few years, I may follow your lead.
