First of all I'm from Finland (that tiny country next to Russia) and my english isn't that good.

When I think about wall, it's like medieval way to control who's going in or out. I can't see how wall can be great addition to border security in our modern era. Building wall is underestimating people who really want to move for better life. There's always way to do it.

Funny thing is that North America is so appeal to so many people and I guess North America is "paradise" for those who's coming thru Mexico now. When I look at things now that pretty image of greatest country in the world has taken some hits, mostly from inside. Also what's great for many of you guys (in North America), isn't that for everyone (for example: I don't even have need for gun, so living without weapon is just fine).

I'm wondering if there is some kind of side-agenda why wall is one of those 'must have' things now. I like to see really good/intellect reasoning why there should be wall.

One party wins if a wall is built, the other party wins if the wall is not built. Other than that the wall will be of little use. It is mostly symbolic.

It is an idiots wall that those who by and large also insist on owning guns want not rational thinking people.Walls just like locks on doors, only keep out the honest people.

The entire wall narrative ignores the fact that the vast majority of illegal immigrants enter America totally legally and then overstay their visas. No wall will stop that.

I think that the main argument, against a US/Mexico border wall, is based on the idea that it looks bad.

That might not be what they say, but I believe that is what they think.

I don't care how long or how tall the wall is those who have a strong enough desire will figure out very quickly how to either go over, under around or through the wall. And we still will always have THOUSANDS OF MILES of unguarded unwalled coast line.

You'll note that I didn't respond to that post, until prompted?

    The post is off-topic.

There are many laws, about immigration, which should be changed or enforced.

How is my post off topic?

I directly stated that the wall is pointless because it will do nothing to stop the vast majority of illegals.

Walls don't work if you're trying to flood people in.

Walls don't work, neither do buckets or wheels.

"Walls don't work" - give me a break. I've been building walls all of my adult life. It is my experience that the right wall works every time its tried.

So you build walls for a living? The walls you build pretty impenetrable?

Seemed pretty on topic to me.

Are you proposing we let our tourist industry take a dive and not let any non-citizens into the country?

80' up and 40' under has worked 100% in Israel since erected. Terrorist muslims still get in, but none over or under the walls, so far.

Visa overstays have no relation to a border wall.

Not mentioning an irrelevancy isn't the same as ignoring it.

The subject of a border wall fits into the broader category of border security. This is different than the category of immigration law, into which visa overstays more properly fit.

What aspects of border security will the wall protect against?

Terrorists? They come into the US with legal visas. Not evidence exists for a single terrorist has entered America illegally over the Mexican border.

Drugs? Most drug shipments come into the US smuggled in legal traffic. The wall won’t stop them.

A physical barrier alone isn’t enough. Israel’s wall works because they have the forces to defend it. Put that level of manned defense on the US border and we wouldn’t need a wall anyway.

As it stands we don’t have that manpower and a mostly unmanned wall isn’t going to make a difference.

Are you suggesting that no one crosses our borders illegally now where the wall will be built?
Are you suggesting that we cannot build a wall system that can keep 99.99% of people out?
Or, do you just want to let them in?
Were you one of those kids that I always had to stick up for, one of those kids who wouldn't defend themselves out of fear of making the bully more angry? You seem, to me, to have absolutely no fight in you. You seem, to me, to be defeated before you even try.

Perhaps you're wrong. Thanks to president Trump, we're going to find out.

Walls work. Ask any Hollywood Movie Star in a gated community. Ask the Vatican. Ask Israel. The OP is from Finland. Don't know that they need a wall. Is there a mass immigration wanting to go there to take advantage of their entitlements?

I’m suggesting that illegal crossings are not a significant enough problem to warrant the cost of the construction, maintenance, and manning of a wall.
