Anyone who may still be frightened is welcome to continue to wear masks.

From the very start, scientists stated that as the virus mutates, future strains become less and less severe, until it ends up as a common cold. Omicron confirmed that path.

I, too, will be following how well it works out for them. If successful, we can follow suit!

If this experiment proves to be a mistake, the residents of England (and maybe Wales and Scotland) will be personae non grata if they want to travel outside their island.
I hope Bozo has thought of this.

But the sheep follow the scientists on masks and vaccines, do they follow what the scientists said what each mutation does? Or do you just cherry pick what the scientists say?

The numbers will be exactly the same as everywhere.
There is absolutely nothing that prevents spread of virus.

Boris Johnson is supposed to be leading the fight against the virus, like leaders throughout the world.
He has been a disaster, the reason being he is a lazy person who encourages his associates to corruptly get rich exploiting the fall out from the pandemic.
Boris Johnson is an absolutely vile person that is able to con people into falling for his act.

Boris Johnson has no integrity and is a coward.
In the last election campaign he hid inside a refrigerator rather than give a straightforward answer to a straightforward question.
If you want and example of public integrity and courage look at Queen Elizabeth at the time of the death of her husband.
Johnson is an evil prince of darkness.

Whatever the voracity of the figures, you can still look at international comparisons.

I suppose the answer to that is that the sheep aren't really qualified to override the science they are told.

Like so many people in the UK, my first instinct about Bozo is that he is lying or playing some game. So when he tells the country that "all's well" it reminds me of Bush standing on the deck of the Abraham Lincoln declaring "Mission Accomplished". Great headlines and polls show an upswing in support. A wonderful distraction of course.
Please understand that I really hope he is right. I just have this nagging feeling he hasn't thought this through.

most countries will do this, either this month or next

anyone still not vaccinated us doing it by choice, so they are on their own

besides, Omicron is so contagious, not even masks are slowing the spread

I do see your point, but the fact remains that by his recent actions, BoJo has shown more courage than either Biden or Macron.

I give credit where credit is due, but you're right that his despicable actions greatly outnumber his positive actions.

Personally, I disagreed from the start Boris implementing lockdowns. Even without all this delaying tactics, covid deaths would have been a tiny proportion of the population. So now, due to the economic fallout of lockdowns and what it's done to the physical and mental health of some, the results from this will likely cause more deaths than from the virus itself. Some 8,000 will now die due to their cancer not being caught in time, and poorer diets create health issues.

Before anyone gets on their high horse, a government programme of some sort could have been put in place to support those who wished to isolate at home, those with health issues and those who were frightened. Say in the form of a loan to cover wages with low interest payments etc.. just like the company Bounce Back loan scheme.

Despite masks and restrictions being scrapped, people are still entitled to wear masks and stay in etc..

But what about the impact on hospital capacity in a "your choice" free for all? Even with strict containment measures they've been pushed to the max.

I could mention Brexit but that would be way off topic
    I don't call it courage.
    I call it desperation.

(UK), I pay my tax for hospitals to save me, same with everyone. We don't pay our taxes to save the hospitals, it's not a condition. If it was, I would want a tax rebate. How the NHS or government runs the health service, that's their look out. If they're unable too, they're not fit to run it. Get someone in who can.

So you think govt could have magically provided all the countless extra beds, medical personnel and equipment required? And "tough luck" to anyone requiring hospitalization for something else?

Well luckily the UK govt had more sense than you and recognizing that it lacked the necessary magical powers to build, equip and staff countless new hospitals at the drop of a hat, did all it could to maximize capacity while simultaneously imposing a lockdown, to optimize the likelihood that anyone requiring care for whatever reason would receive it.

Yes, those in the UK government are not very efficient. You need to draft in make shift hospitals like the Chinese did that showed the world up.

but... didn't Boris, Farage and Cummings promise £350 million a week to the NHS after brexit? or am I dreaming about the 'warbus' they had drive around London?

I continue to wear my mask due to my work, and the only good thing Boris has ever done was years back when he appeared on 'have I got news for you' and was the brunt of many jokes by comedians with far more intelligence than him.
