I don't like the fifth republic because it was a suit only the General could wear. It's probably our most remarkable leader for a long time, and I would put him way before Napoleon. De Gaulle was for instance one of the only general who was aware of the need of fully motorized divisions before WW2 which one of the main reason of the french defeat. His honnesty overshadow all politicians we had since. That's sad but the man who did that is only a bug aside of a lion.
Although DeGaulle withdrew France from NATO (not completely) he was an admirable leader. Evidently an individual was unable to appreciate this French leader's historical accomplishments, he ought to be imprisoned and educated there.
Hard to say, he was hated by far right because he faced the fact we had to withdraw from Algeria because we couldn't keep it without slaughtering most inhabitants, far left hated him because he was an old school guy. I would think to an idiot who don't like to be overshadowed by a legend.
