Julian Assange: Wikileaks co-founder arrested in London

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-47891737

The end of the road. Will Julian Assange be extradited to the USA? I bet there are many people in this world who would like to interrogate him. What does he know?

Well, he's been holed up in there long enough, so in some sense [almost] anything that happens to him now can't be worse than what the trajectory of his fate was so far.

I think any sentence should take into account the time he's already languished in that embassy.

If he does get extradited to the U.S., I hope a lot of people burn in hell.
(and I'm not the type of person to often wish that)

Just before someone stupid chimes in, he's not a rapist. Too complicated to get into here, but if you believe that you're obviously ignorant of the whole story.

(What he was actually accused of doing in Sweden would not constitute "rape" in any other normal country)

Isn’t the timing of this absolutely curious?

I am happy if this triggers a finality. "Hiding" in an Embassy was never a long term solution. Ecuador had enough of their freeloader. I would have lost my congeniality with him years ago. Let's see Justice unfurl, one way or another.

Nah, or at least, I fail to see any curiosity.

Keep in mind he's being arrested for running away from court on bond, even though technically his original accused crime has been withdrawn by the prosecutor in Sweden.

That is the law in the U.K. but it is so wrong.

That would be sort of like punishing someone with an additional year in prison for escaping even though it later turned out and had been proved that they were innocent of the original crime.

Personally, I wouldn't extradite him to the USA. No one can guarantee him a fair trial and quite a few 'elitists' want him dead anyway. Of course, he is not a rapist. Those were made up accusations. However, better to extradite him to Sweden than to the USA.

Yes, it turns out those rumors of his imminently impending arrest may have turned out to be true (even though those rumors were flatly denied).

Sweden is no longer seeking to have him extradited, and in any case the statute of limitations would have run out there anyway for that accused crime, so I think that's a non-issue at this point.

Assange is a piece of dung...Jerry Springer on a larger stage.

I am as much an advocate of freedom of speech as anyone else, but if this turd ended up in prison for many more years, I would not shed a tear. The crap he has done was not done in the interest of "freedom of speech"...it was much more nefarious.

Sorry for all the scatological references, but they were the ones that came to mind.

Well, he's got this going for him (and not much else)

    SNIP
During a radio interview in December, Moreno stated that the Ecuadorian government has received written assurances from the U.K. government that Assange would not be extradited to face the death penalty abroad.
    ENDSNIP

He's coming to USA eventually, no bout adout it.... he likely has a sealed charge against him.

We won't kill him.... we promise...

I guess there will be a lot of legal gymnastics going on in next few days. One thing for sure, the British government will use Assange as a bargaining chip.

Swedish prosecutor urged to reopen rape investigation into Julian Assange

    https://www.thelocal.se/20190411/sw...reopen-rape-investigation-into-julian-assange

Sweden's director of public prosecutions Marianne Ny decided in May 2017 to shut a preliminary investigation into the rape allegations.

She argued that since Assange could not be reached after taking up residence in the Ecuadorian embassy in London in 2012, it was not possible to proceed with the probe. Ny also said that if Assange were to become available again, prosecutors could decide to reopen the investigation.

In a statement from the Swedish Prosecution Authority, chief prosecutor Ingrid Isgren said they had learned of Assange's arrest from media reports. "This is news to us too, so we have not been able to take a position on the information that is now available. We also do not know why he is under arrest. We are following the developments," she commented.

The statement continued: "A preliminary investigation can be resumed as long as the suspected crime is not subject to statute of limitation. In this case, the suspected crime of rape would be subject to statute of limitation in mid-August 2020."

If Swedish prosecutors were to revive the charges again and were granted an extradition, they could take hold of Assage's fate, either for good or for bad.

And I'm not referring to the charges in Sweden. Even if he was convicted there he would likely be sentenced to no more than 14 months for those charges, likely less.

I'd imagine Trump would welcome Assange being held for a year in prison in another country, so he wouldn't have to deal with the controversy until after the next election.

Man hope he doesn’t fall out of the helicopter in route. That would be terrible.

    No.

I'll let you research it yourself.

I don't care to waste the energy doing any further explaining about this.

His alleged crime was slipping off a condom without telling the female he was having sex with. That's considered a form of rape in Sweden.

Sure she wasn’t the only one. He is an agent provocateur. He made his bed.
So guess he has to lie in it. Lesson in all this. Don’t be a dick

Sooner or later folks who violate the law of mishandling classified material will be arrested. I wonder if Hillary knows this?

Not sure how one thing has anything to do with the other thing, but certain theorists can connect just about anything..

If Assange has committed crimes in or versus the United States, he needs to answer for them... end of story.

P.S. Saw some video of him being arrested this AM in London.... OMG... did the Ecuadorian embassy not have showers or razors??

Assange has claimed much of his information dump came from an insider in the DNC. He may be dead man walking, but not for the reasons some think. The Clinton Body bag count may not be final yet.
