Insightful and analytical are wonderful qualities able to support, but sadly not replace, knowledge and understanding of the realities in the Middle East and of life in general.

People in war zones are no heroes in Hollywood movies. They have families to protect. Tribal leaders who refused to pledge allegiance to ISIS condemned themselves and their tribes to death. Of course some of the tribal leaders chose life under the yoke of ISIS rather than death for all their tribe. That doesn't make them evil, or terrorists. That makes them saviors of their people. That makes them precious allies for the US, as they're aware of the alternatives.

The rapid flip-flops usually practiced by the anti-US crowd make my head spin. On one side, they expect tribal leaders in a war zone to behave according to American standards, heroically endangering themselves and their community for freedom, dignity and the "we don't deal with terrorists" Rambo-ish Hollywoodian way. On the other side, they heap praise even on Islamic terrorists who attack Western citizens, because "big bad America bullies them into changing their way of life". I wish the anti-US crowd decide already if the Middle Easterners should accept or reject American ways.

The funniest part of your post is where you bring an article in a leftist blog to support your position, even though you yourself are a fan of the far-right Russian leader Putin.

Why do you believe the military is not being used to advance the interests of big government? War is big government in all its glory. We have no business in Syria and never have

The US created the war zone by arming, training and facilitating their ISIS mercenary army, with the goal of regime change. The US war machine is responsible for the death and yoke.

This war is the epitome of big government

The US Constitution gives "big government" certain powers in order to further the interests of "We, the People". Although "We, the People" can disagree on whether or not assisting secular rebels furthers the interests of "We, the People", the fact remains it's the job of "big government" to protect those interests.

As for Syria, it's a piece of the entire ME problem. Why is the US and Russia involved the region but didn't care about Rwanda? Oil, of course. While the US imports a minimal amount of ME oil, mostly to maintain relations with Saudi Arabia, most of the Europe and Asia (i.e. most of our trading partners) do rely upon ME oil. If the economy of the EU, Japan or China collapsed because Iran closed off the Straits of Hormuz, do you believe it would have an adverse impact on the US economy? If ISIS took over Syria and Iraq, would that have an adverse effect upon the US economy? If Russia consolidated their interests and were the primary "mover and shaker" in the Western Med and the ME, would they be able to strong arm our trading partners with oil like they do the EU with natural gas? The answer is Yes to all three scenarios.

Yes, we do have an interest in Libya, Syria and the entire ME/Persian Gulf. Worth starting WWIII over? No, but the same goes for Russia.

That's a lie, but I'm fascinated why America-haters always blame the US for all the world's ills yet never, every blame the Soviet Union/Russia, China, Iran nor anyone else.

Squid, why do you only blame the US for all the problems in the world? Do you believe the US caused the Sykes-Picot agreement? Started the Korean War? Started WWI? WWII?

I blame the big gov collectivist/corporstists that are ruining our country. Why does a self proclaimed conservative approve of this?
Just because you can drop bombs doesn't make it conservative

To paraphrase Winston Churchill: "Capitalism is the worst form of economic systems except for all the others".

In the world of professionals in which I reside, "it's okay to bitch and complain about a problem, but you damn well better have a solution. If not, then **** until you do". Yes, capitalism is flawed, but with our current level of global technology, a capitalist republic with a socialist safety net for the elderly, infirm and minors is the best we can do.

I have no idea what you are talking about regarding bombs and conservatism. Overall, war is bad for business. Yes, arms is big business and the LWers love to scream about it, but they are wearing blinders.

This link states the global arms industry generating $371B in 2015 with the US generating $210B of those sales (high tech sells better than low tech). As this link states, the economy of Germany alone is $3.4 TRILLION. The US $19.4T, China $11.7T. War screws that up as anyone who watches the stock market fall every time sabers rattle in key parts of the world.

The one thing the liberal corporatists can always count on, conservatives supporting their aspirations of world policing, regime change and nation building

Of course the US will back the Kurds, since the plans made up by the lobbyists (so called think tanks) like Brookings Inst. had it all planned for years to split up Syria, and drive the wedge of a Kurdish state to separate Syria from Iran, and have it unite with Kurdistan in Iraq. But Washington is not admitting they back a Kurdistan, only Israel is... but then again who believes Washington anyway. They speak with a forked tongue. (It's American native speak for duplicity).

Problem is Syria doesn't like it, since they are grabbing Syria's oil wells in Deir Ezzor to give to the Kurds. Syria needs the money to rebuild their country after it was destroyed by those supporting terrorists, as well as by the indiscriminate bombings of the American coalition.

Russia didn't like it either, since it needed the Shia crescent for protection of its southern flank, and didn't want another incursion of terrorists coming in from the Gulf states through an American aligned Kurdistan. The Chechnyan wars are not easily forgotten.

Russia is neutral on the matter of the Kurds, since they like to have good relations with nations. That way it can trade with all sides, and also to help foster peace ...something Washington hates. Russia has good relations with the Turks, Iranians, Iraqis, Kurds, Syrians, Qataries, Egyptians, Saudis, etc, etc., and everyone else except for Washington and its military war machine; Nato, since it's a threat to American
    hegemony.

Memes do not impress me, facts that reveal a claim as true do. Get back to me when you can back your claims with fact.

Opinion does not impress me, facts do. What source citation can you present to prove for a fact that the USA is allied with ISIS?

Of course we have no business spilling blood in Syria but as long as Israeli lobbies dominate US Mid East Policy, the US will be there fighting wars for AIPAC:

"Pro-Israel lobby backs US strikes on Syria"
    http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/features/2013/09/20139414329291833.html

EXCERPT ""This is a critical moment when America must … send a message of resolve to Iran and Hezbollah - both of whom have provided direct and extensive military support to [Syrian President Bashar al-] Assad. The Syrian regime and its Iranian ally have repeatedly demonstrated that they will not respect civilised norms," the group [A.I.P.A.C.] said.

"That is why America must act, and why we must prevent further proliferation of unconventional weapons in this region," it added.

    Credibility concerns

A key Jewish group, the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organisations, also came out in favour of military action based on much the same argument."CONTINUED

Yes, I know I am! By the way, heard the latest . . .

"Nasa’s Solar Probe Plus mission to ‘touch the sun’"

    https://www.thesun.co.uk/tech/45481...-the-sun-revealed-in-behind-the-scenes-video/

Would someone please point out to NASA (on my behalf  ) that the 'probe' will have melted long before it can touch the sun. ('touch' the sun - ffs! it's like they're talking to children! [IMG] Hmm, hold that thought?). I've always known that one day NASA will come out with something so preposterous that even their most ardent disciples will pause to reflect - this might be it? On the other hand it might not!

Translation: All energy flows must be paid for in dollars so that SWIFT sanctions can continue to be implemented in support of our global bond fraud, and the government/banks that implement it

In the meantime, closer to the scenes of the actual fight against ISIS, Iran today mourned the death of a hero -- a revolutionary guard soldier wounded in battle against ISIS, captured and beheaded by these monsters. Throughout the episode, the soldier - Mohsen Hojaji - never flinched and showed the kind of courage and commitment that has brought together much of Iran's public. His sacrifice has helped mute and blunt those who were trying to create a wedge within Iranian public opinion to weaken Iran's resolve to stand up to ISIS and those who are implicitly or explicitly supporting this group in various theaters. America may or may not be among them, depending on what side and which stories you choose to believe, but Israel's posture towards ISIS isn't even a secret.

    Oh please...don't mistake me...I'm no one's student...and this isn't our last dance, :)).

As for ending up like Ukraine...well look at it this way...Ukraine's been that unlucky poster child of Soviet mismanagement for decades. From the Bolshevik revolution, pogroms, disastrous collectivization, stalin, more pogroms, holodomor, WW2, great patriotic war BS, gulags, more gulags, Chernobyl, SU breakup, and terrible sovok attitude(thanks to moskalis). Turks may be lucky enough to be spared, thats if they don't hitch their wagon to those Muscovites. But need no worry, nato not far away, and tomahawks are close by in case Ivan Ivanovich decides to get adventurous!!;))

Yes, Iran hates ISIS, but they also hate all Sunni's. After ISIS is vanquished, they'll go back to supporting terrorism against Westerners, Jews and, of course, Sunnis.

Trust me, I'm serious, and I know when I'm being fooled. I think of it as 'independent thought' and I reject bullshit in whatever form it takes.

Edit: Out of curiosity, do you believe it?

You're wrong, but I can tell you're convinced of the fact by the number of times you've posted the remark; but you have obviously made your mind up, so I'm not going to bother trying to persuade you of how wrong you are.
