That whole Trump thing annoys you ... patriotism, America first, fighting for the makers (and not the takers), etc.

Yes. Hopefully questions like 'why ban rifles when pistols are what criminals use for violence?' and definitions that don't restrict Constitutionally protected activities like peaceable assembly and regulating the militia.

Yes, gun control is a bright shiny political poison apple Democrats and a few Republicans simply can't resist.

And it's not going to solve the vast majority of gun violence in Virginia. It will enable Democrats to avoid addressing the issues that actually will affect gun violence but that's precisely the point - they don't want to address those issues. They want gullible Virginians to think that they are.

I don't think it's going to end well for them, either. They've created a lot of opposition that was sitting on the political sidelines up till now and they've revived a moribund Virginia GOP. To make matters worse for them, the scandals involving Gov. Coonman, Lt. Gov. Fairfax and AG Herring aren't going to help them in next year's elections. Fairfax and Herring were the Dem heirs apparent but I think Fairfax's political career is over (he's being shunned by fundraisers) and Herring's going to have a hard time getting beyond his own blackface faceplant. The question is can the VA GOP exploit that problem and right now that remains an open question.

I wonder how much of this is the result of WV's offer for a large portion of VA to secede and join WV... I was kinda hoping that would happen. Would've been some very interesting precedent for the political future of the US

The GOP establishment is hapless, but they can win when the DP insists on committing political suicide for them.

'Gun control' is merely an optics game for progressives. Well, that and being the authoritarians they are, an armed populace is less than desirable for them.

The data is pretty clear about who is responsible for the majority of gun violence, and what type of guns they're using. Shocker, it's not white conservatives with civilian versions of assault weapons... which explains why Democrats can't do anything to effectively address the actual problem.

Well, it seems laws are meaningless. If there were a nationwide ban on guns there could be sanctuary cities and states. That is how it works these days. If you do not like a law then thumb your nose at it.

The rule of law is dead in this country, and the government is the worst offender.

I don't know why we go through the fantastically elaborate and expensive charade of pretending it exists anymore.

The NRA was outspent 8 to 1 by the largest anti-gun rights group. And the good guys still won.

The NRA hasn't won anything; all that happened was that the bill has been tabled for discussion/clarification and possibly revision. The bill can be resurrected at any point once the clarification/revision's have taken place.

Don't worry, if anymore Virginia Beach shootings occur public opinion might change and you could see the bill back on the table to be voted on faster then you can imagine and it could be worse then what was originally proposed.

I hope those counties break away from VA and join WV. It would be the ultimate insult to the authoritarians.

Suppose WV decides to adopt language similar to Virginia's? Will those counties break away and form a new state?

Why would WV suddenly go anti-2nd amendment? There is no demand for that in WV.

Liberals are moving to WV since the cost of living is very inexpensive there.
