    A little kindness?

Biden has shown more kindness throughout the campaign and in his first week in office than Trump has in four years (to paraphrase one of the MAGA memes).

Throw enough daggers at a rational person and eventually even a calm and patient person will spill their coffee and go find some daggers themselves. People in real life are not in an "uncivil war" as Biden proclaimed we are.

Really? Have you not seen people at each others throats, sometimes with violence erupting at protests where those opposing the protest show up? Did you not see the violence over the summer? Did you not see the violence at the Capitol? Have you not heard of the numerous stories of families at odds over politics? Have you not seen the social media "fights"?

That's not most peoples' life. The vast majority of Americans are not at each others' throats. The last place they would be is in the middle of a riot. That is most of America. Calm and civil.

Media profits from red meat. TMedia presents the most outrageous extremes. And extremists love media attention. It's a symbiotic relationship.

Riots and violence are happening across the country, but that is not "the norm" for Americans on a day-to-day basis. We have laws on the books which should be used. Cities need to make use of their police departments and call in the National Guard if necessary to tamp down riots. FBI knows when riots are planned and they alert Police Chiefs ahead of time. There is no obvious reason that the destruction cannot be stopped and the destroys be arrested and jailed. If that is not happening, then people need to vote out of office or recall their mayor, city council, governor or whoever is not restoring and maintaining peace.

I never said "Most". You're arguing against a position you created. I just merely pointed out there is plenty of 'uncivil' behavior going on among US citizens. Enough that it's not unreasonable to point out.

Not really. He has a softer voice and he is a well-groomed career politician but he is carrying on and worsening the political divisions already. His team seem to believe that hate buys more votes than love.

If I were Biden, I would fire his speech writers who hate half of Americans and hire someone similar to Tulsi Gabbard.

This video shows how to use words to heal a nation and bring people together. Notice the absence of political rhetoric. Notice the presence of talking about civility instead of spewing left-wing talking points, namely "racist, sexist, white supremacist and the brand new and improved escalation to "domestic terrorists".

Perhaps we can disagree over the semantics of "most" or "plenty".

It is reasonable to point out, and I posted acknowledgement that some riots and violence are happening. My proposed solution is that law enforcement quickly get it under control. What is your proposal?

What specifically has Biden said, since Jan 20 that is worsening political divisions?

I'm living in the same world as you, and I happen to think that Tulsi is and will be very influential in political thought going forward, whether she ever runs for office again or not.

There is a large chunk of America, perhaps a plurality who are more moderate in tone and rhetoric, even if their core political ideology is rather partisan.

I wouldn't agree with Tulsi on all of her policy positions, but she is very intelligent and she understands the value of explaining why she believes her policies are "better" while respecting and listening to people who disagree with her. That's a unifyinig political attitude.

Unity does not require agreement; it does require civility and respect.

Right. So then, if city mayors are telling police to stand down, then either they need to be voted out or the state governor needs to step in with National Guard if the city mayor refuses to maintain peace. If the governor won't maintain peace, then they need to be voted out.

We have law and order solutions to these problems already. They just aren't being implemented well everywhere.

    The voters have spoken.
    They want lawlessness.

Most problems are under local purview, then state authority. Cities like Seattle and Portland have major law enforcement issues because of voters' preferences there locally, and at the state level, so the governor is no help.

Austin would be just like Seattle/Portland if we didn't have a Republican governor. Our governor will cut off state funds to cities and/or send our Nation Guard to cities if lawlessness is getting out of hand in any Texas city.

But yeah. Elections have consequences after all the frilly propaganda and flowery promises of election campaigns.

    To your point:

Mayor Bowser was offered additional law enforcement resources before January 6th, but she declined saying more enforcement wasn't needed. If I lived in D.C., I'd sign a petition to recall and replace her.

I should clarify that I mean "unity" with conservatives in the Republican Party. I don't want unity with the fascists who, as of late, have poisoned that party either.

If the virus had been contained in China, we wouldn't have had any deaths. If anybody more competent than Trump had been President, hundreds of thousands of American lives would have been save.

Well I wouldn't go that hyperbolic! It's a virus Golem, it was bound to spread, just not as we experienced with COVID-19. Clearly the lack of transparency, honesty from the Chiners and WHO have a great deal of fault in the World Wide spread and deaths globally..

You don't have to change sides, we all have our hero's in all this.. But if you hold honesty at any level in your life then apply some fault to the all great XI and the mistakes he and the WHO are guilty of.. Blaming the entire world for something none of them had control over or real chance to suppress is a fools quest bro..
