What - you mean the Dental treatment which is the most expensive in europe, that someone on a low wage CAN'T AFFORD - yet Abdul from Somalia, who makes no attempt to find work, gets free with all the trimmings ? I always hated Thatcher. I am not sure she was herself actually a bad person, but she was stubbornly attached to an ideology that effectively only benefitted the wealthy business interests and hurt the working man- especially the lower working class. When she closed down the coal mines that were losing money, what she failed to realise is that it would have been cheaper to continue to subsidise the unprofitable operation than to create new jobs for the miners who lost their jobs. For example, suppose it costs the government 10 million pounds to keep the operation going, but the total wages of the workers were 30 million pounds. And paying all those unemployed workers later costs 5 million pounds. So if the government had just been willing to pay 5 million more, it could have created 30 million in wages for all the workers that would otherwise have been without jobs. Not only that, but then the government had to buy more expensive coal from abroad! Privitisation is NOT always a good thing. There is no problem with migrants, provided that the numbers tally up with what the Home Office are saying should come. But the truth is that the both the Home Office and the rest of government just havn,t got a clue as to how many are living here, or how many are illegal. I would say at least ten times the amount the government says. Also the number that have been deported is woefully low, with many, even ex prisoners not being removed because they have won their appeal, or its been that long for the immagration services to get round to a case they have had children by this time.

How are those countries managing now? Everything has changed since the 60s anyway and things do change and people migrate as a result in the same way that any animal will migrate to survive. It's nonsense to expect anything else. The world is smaller now than in the 60s. People are more mobile and more aware and communication is instant. Information is available to everyone and everyone knows where the money is and where to go to make it. All kinds of issues affect migration and to try to prevent people leaving a place where there is no economic opportunity is idiotic. Of course people will always want to survive and they will always want the best for their families. Just as you want to keep them out of your country, to make things better for you.

It's not just the BBC. Swedish state television is really bad, probably worse in this regard. And to think our tax money is paying for all this. And yet the irony is that most of these "documentaries" are so blatent it is rarely shown on American TV, it would provoke too much controversy there, and give an opportunity for inconvenient issues to gain publicity.
