Washington's sanctions towards Russia had to do with the Maginsky Act in Congress. It was based on the testimony of Bill Browder whose No. 1 enemy is Vladimir Putin. Putin has an arrest warrant on him for tax evasion and recently the German magazine Der Spiegel did an expose' on Browder and revealed all the inconsistencies in his testimony which would render the Maginsky Act as being fraudulent. To Der Spiegel's credit, they refuse to be intimidated by Bill Browder, and believe me he's throwing a lot at them - after all it involves Congress, Obama, etc., etc. Add it to all the other problems Congress will be facing, and especially the democrats, we are going to have one big mess. I do not read the MSM, but I doubt they would mention anything about Browder lying to the American Congress, since it doesn't fit into their liberal new world narratives.

Actually RT said it was from Spiegel and I trust RT. Spiegel is no different than the other MSM. Didn't they blame Putin for killing the people in the airliner, when they knew damn well he had nothing to do with it? So Spiegel is just another MSM propaganda sheet. I think it was a Danish journalist that found the inconsistencies in Bill Browder's 2012 testimony to the American Congress. Browder convinced Congress that Putin was behind Maginsky's death and the Danish newspaper was attacked heavily by Washington's cronies for publishing it. Our whole policy of sanctioning Russia and blaming them for everything and anything, started when Congress passed the Maginsky law. The reason Der Speigel published it is because Merkel is angry at Trump and Washington, otherwise they wouldn't mention it. I'm sure it's not mentioned in any of our MSM. This though is not the first time Der Spiegel didn't go along with Washington. The last time was when the war mongers in Washington tried to break the Minsk agreement and it probably upset Merkel. General Breedlove said at the time that thousands of Russian troops and tanks were invading Ukraine. The German Intelligence agents though couldn't see them, so according to Der Spiegel, they reported the General as hallucinating.
If you trust RT, than I feel sorry for you. Spiegel is a left liberal publication, European liberals, mind you. It is its own company, run by the founders family. Spiegel publishes because of its own agenda, not because of Merkel. You are making things up, as usual. If you refer to Spiegel, which I read every morning, than you have to cross check with all the other German media, like FAZ, Welt, Sueddeutsche and so on, all of them are independly owned media outlets, and no owned by some mysterious 6 owners. From the far left to the far right. None of the Spiegel guys were there, they just choose to use what a person claimed to have been there, said. Nothing more. I like to read the Spiegel, I do it every morning and get the print version once a month, in the US. But it is a very questionable out let, interesting, by all means, but...………………. Do you know about the Spiegel guy, top notch, seriously top notch, reporting about the US. He got what ever awards were available. All he did, sit at his desk in Germany and fabricate his stories.
