Citing the vile online manifesto attributed to the Buffalo shooter, Gov. Hochul on Sunday urged social media companies to crack down on hate speech — calling the sites “instruments of evil.”

“I’m calling on the CEOs of all the social media platforms to examine their policies and to be able to look me in the eye and tell me that everything is being done that they can to make sure that this information is not spread,” she told CNN’s “State of the Union,” speaking a day after 18-year-old Payton Gendron, who is white, killed 10 in an attack targeting Black people.

“They have to identify when information like this — the second it hits the platform, it needs to be taken down, because this is spreading like wildfire. These theories that result in the radicalization of a young person sitting in their house is deeply scary, and it’s something that has to be dealt with,” added Hochul, a Democrat.

Prior to the attack, Gendron apparently posted a 180-page screed saying he chose the site of his attack because it had the largest Black community that was close to him. Among his racist ravings, he cited the so-called “replacement theory” popular on the far right. The doctrine holds that people of color are replacing whites, with help from elites.

Well not really surprising. People seem to respond to tragedy in this country by calling for a restriction of american rights. Seems like all the solutions are created to punish those who don't break the laws and not actually target those who do.

Just another manifestation of the "Mainstreaming" (and Normalization) of Extreme Radical RW Ideology that was allowed to occur in the aftermath of the 2016 Election of Donald Trump.
    Not surprising in the least.

Yup, Biden has set records for COVID-19 deaths and drug overdoses, at least.

Which of my rights are being restricted if a social media site flags my posts that are about targeting and killing a specific race of people?

The anti-free-speech governor isn't talking about "posts that are about targeting and killing a specific race of people". He's talking about banning ideas he doesn't like.

Anything relevant to what I posted? Or just strawman illogical statements?

The fact that hate speech and speech that incites violence is already illegal. I get you thought you might sound clever posting it, but it just comes off as ignorant.

Do you have an link or proof to your assertion? The comment was made directly referencing a 180 page screed regarding hatred for and desire to kill Black people.

So what kind of speech are you referring to in your comments if not hate speech?

The chances that the Buffalo shooter is a proud Republican are 100%.

Like all members of extreme right-wing militias, all neo-Nazis, all KKKs.

It proves that GOP political rhetoric kills.

False. The word "Republican" never appears in his manifesto. He does ask and answer this question though:

    "Are you a conservative?
No, conservatism is corporatism in disguise, I want no part of it."

WAY more Democrats have been members of the KKK than Republicans.

    Not since 50 years....

The Great Replacement theory has been widely propagated by GOP elected officials, including Stefanik, Cawthorn and Taylor Green.

Tucker Carslon and Steve Bannon have also talked about it extensively.

    GOP rhetoric is killing.

Just the anti-free-speech governor's own words. Go watch the video for yourself:

NY governor calls on social media companies to police platforms (cnn.com)

Among other things, she said, "These theories that result in the radicalization of a young person sitting in their house is deeply scary, and it’s something that has to be dealt with"

She's complaining about "theories" such as "replacement theory", not about "posts that are about targeting and killing a specific race of people" (which are already banned on social media platforms). That's why your claim was false.

    I accept your concession.

The KKK has been almost non-existent for the last 50 years, but in its heyday, its members and supporters were overwhelmingly Democrats. Thanks for playing.

BTW, he identifies more as a socialist than conservative. He's rather ambivalent about left-wing vs right-wing:

What is being discussed in the great replacement theory? What is the solution recommended? Who are the people who believe in and promote this theory?

You're just confirming my point that the KKK is almost non-existent these days. Virtually nobody reads "The Crusader", or would even know what it is if it weren't for Reuters and other MSM outlets writing about it.
